Ceapaim go mbéadh rud mhaith é gan dabht dá mbéadh se ó níos mó daltaí s'na scoileanna Gaeilge a staidéar ó tús go dtí an am a bhíonn an teanga go léir acu.

I believe it would certainly be a good thing if more pupils in schools actually wanted to study Irish from the very start to the time they have the entire language learnt.

(that's quite a literal translation - basically, the more students who take an active interest in learning it until fluent, the better in my humble opinion. I know I'm really only getting back into it lately and am annoyed at how much of the language is lost to me...)

No, but he said it was for a specific group of people, and my posts were rather inflammatory for a private board.

Chuaigh mise go dtí bhunscoil Gaeilge agus meanscoil Gaeilge agus táim tar éis scoil a chríochnú inné... fós caithfidh mé an ard teist a dhéanamh an gCéadaoin seo chugainn, ach ní labhreoimid (?litriú) faoi sin.
is é... nó bhí an Gaeilge ceann de na hábhar is fearr liom agus mé ag freastail ar scoil agus ceapaim gur rud maith é teanga dúlgais a bheith ag tír agus ag daoine.
is fíor é go d'fhéadfaí an ábhar a mhúineadh i mbealach níos fear, tá an gcúrsa an cosúil leis an cúrsa Béarla, sa mhéid is a bhfuil alán béím curtha ar an fhilíócht agus are prós. Measaim má raibh níos mó béim curtha ar stair agus bunrialacha/stair na teanga sa timthriall sóisearach (junior cycle) beidh i bhfad níos mó daltaí in ann filíocht agus scéalta trí Ghaeilge a lábhsáil sna scrúdaithe.
B'fhéidir go mba chóir é a mhúineadh mar teanga iasachta, mar aon leis an fhrancais no an ghearmánais... ag foghlaim briathra agus rialacha na dteanga, in ionad mar teanga dúlgais, ag "taking for granted"... (caith mé an deich nóiméad deireanach ag iarradh smaonieamh are na focail as Gaeilge ag ní raibh mé in ann) go bhfuil leibhéal Gaeilge ard ag na daltaí.
Má raibh ormsa, nó an cuid is mó daoine i mo rang, aiste as francais a scríobh nó fhilíocht francaise a léamh agus a thuige... beidh mé i bponc gan dabht.

Curious topic. People posting in English and
as Gaelige. Why would anyone want to learn
Irish? I can only speak for myself. I can
say thing in the Irish language that I can't
say in any other language. The Irish
language is a medium that I can use to be
myself. Alas, the English language is a more
immediate medium. What does that mean?

Aside from that, I can express myself better
in several other languages than Irish but I
still have the feeling that I'm quite at
home in Irish. Today I wrote "Go n-eirí
an bothar leat" on a card for a colleague
who is leaving. I explaing the meaning
but I couldn't have expressed the same sentiment in any other language.

I can express myself in seven other
    languages. Yes, that's what I
said, seven. Does this mean that Irish is
more or less important to me? Well, to tell
the truth, it is more important because I
identify more with it than the other seven languages.

In my view, Irish people should learn the
Irish language. They should also learn
a number of other languages. I will
encourage my children to learn as many
languages as then can reasonably learn.
In particular, I will encourage them to learn the "high" languages (English, Spanish,
French, German) and the languages of our
    neighbouring countries.

In my view, the best way to communicate with
people is in *their* language. The French
say "We'll sell to you in your language but
    we'll buy in French."

níl ach cupla focal agam, mar sin i'm posting this in english! , ne who imo it shouldn't be forced on ppl, it should be an optional extra language, i no when i was in school i didn't like it, but now that i'm out i wish i had payed attention.

i only speak for myself but when someone is trying to force something on me i do the complete oposite, if it was optional i'd say more ppl would actually volenteraly do it, or do even better at it!

tá sé fíor , tá na múinteoirí ag marú gaeilge frown.gif . Bhí múinteoir go hiontach orm go dtí an blian seo ach d'imigh sí le haghaidh "masters" a dheanamh say leitheoireacht gaeilge agus anois tá amadán múinteoir agam . Is scéal brón é frown.gif .
B'fheidir níl sé ceart a chur brú ar na daltaí gaeilge a dhéanamh ach níl an bród ag na daltaí inniu (tá mise féin cúig déag blain d'aois) ach duine amháin sa chéad frown.gif .
