"Good that you can fit your suitcase under your seat also."

    And reply from Sam:
"hahaha i know man, it looked smaller on the net haha".

Sam won Stage 1 of Bayern Rundfahrt (2.HC) today. In doing so he managed to beat this year's Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix winner John Degenkolb, and the multiple GT stage winner Nacer Bohanni.

Big win for Sam today in the first stage of the Bayern Rundfahrt
Takes the yellow jersey into Stage 2 beating the likes of Degenkolb and Bouhani

The win was especially welcome as it his sponsors home race

    Stage 2 result:
    1. John Degenkolb (TGA)
    2. Nacer Bouhanni (COF)
    3. Enrique Sanz (MOV)
    4. Sam Bennett (BOA)

Looks like he loses the yellow jersey as well due to bonus seconds if my leaving cert german is correct

John Degenkolb vom Team Giant Alpecin wird auf der dritten Etappe das Gelbe Volks- und Raiffeisenbankentrikot tragen.

Sam has taken a second stage win, holding off Bouhanni and Navardauskas in stage 3.

He's back in the leader's yellow jersey as well!

He's becoming a pretty big player at this rate. A TdF stage win could be the next step upwards.

He lost a lot of time yesterday. An area to improve if he wants to take a step up to the next level?

It's not really necessary is it? Cavendish, Kittel and the likes would lose time too. He probably took it handy so he was ready to sprint today. He's never gonna be a gc rider, and he proved this week he's as fast as two cracking sprinters in Degenkolb and Bouhanni.

He souldn't target GC for the moment. Stage win (at least a podium) and many top 10 on Tour de France must be the focus

He just needs to keep doing what he's doing at the moment. I'm really looking forward to seeing him at le Tour.

I'm possibly showing my ignorance here, but when was the last time Ireland had such a talented pure sprinter (if we consider Sean Kelly as an all-rounder)?

    Sean Kelly.
    "Noone likes a smart-arse."
All right. The answer so is Sean Kelly before he became an all-rounder.

Actually remembering that stage with the brutal uphill last km or 500m or so in the Tour of Britain with An Post where Sam came second, that suggested he had a fair bit of the potential all-rounder in him. Twas his last year with An Post when he went on to win a stage in the same race.

    :o Pelevin please... :D

PP have given Sam's odds for stage 2 at 66/1 after request. I just can't not put an e/w bet on that :)

Watching Sam over the last week has got me thinking about the next move for his career. Would he be well advised moving to a bigger team and acting as a leadout man for one of the top top sprinters. Imagine what he could learn from Griepel or Kittel for a couple of years.Being a leadout man for Cav for a season or two certainly didn't do Griepel any harm.

Or would he be better off to continue on his current path given the improvement he has shown already this year?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,727 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

He's beaten Bouhanni, Degenkolb, and Guardini in sprints so far this year. The lad has the speed. He got unucky with fitness this tour and maybe its all a bit much at the moment but he needs to be leading a team and contesting sprints.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,304 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

He needs to just keep doing what he's doing. He's had a fantastic season so far. Bora-Argon18 are backing him and giving him great support.
