Leather Sofa: Old Smoke Smell Cleaning Tips?

I have just moved into a small apartment, with not much room to play around in terms of interior design. (Plus it will only be for a couple of years so not ready to invest in a new sofa).

Currently have a leather sofa that smells of old cigarette smoke. (Actually found old cigarette butts and tobacco shoved down the sides when I was cleaning it). Its bad. The sections are non removable so cannot bring it outside to air out.

I had cleaned it with dettol, washing up liquid, leather wipes, vinegar, bicarbonate soda and a steam mop. Following the last three, the odour went away, mostly and so I covered it with a thick blanket.

Now, 3 weeks on, the smell is back and the blanket stinks of the same gross smells.

If anyone had some leather sofa cleaning wisdom to share it would be greatly appreciated!

    Clodagh
