It's a good start . The multiplex is undergoing extensive testing before it launches properly this is to ensure a clean noise free signal and harmonics emissions . So the signal is limited but clean . More information will be added soon .

    Regards F.

Thanks for the update Franko. Well done to all involved on the technical achievement.

Much appreciated allot of time money and research went into this .cork needs more variety on dab but the BAI refuse to acknowledge that this is radio in the near future .and every effort should be made to push the platform forward .therefore freedab intend to make this happen .there bigger plans behind freedab .which will be revealed when the time comes .

    Regards. F

What do we have here then?!!!!!!!!

Have any more new stations been added by the DAB radio team at freedab. I heard that new specialist station was going on to there but it is not on the franko87 list. Maybe the organisers haven't told him yet?

Hi scotty .the multiplex is still in testing at present as my previous post stated .we are taking on board a few more single format stations in the coming weeks. And once the testing is completed we will launch across cork .

Was thinking about this mux the other day. Can’t be many pirate DAB radio muxes in the world? Might be one or two in Spain or somewhere like that, they’ve had pirate DTT muxes and things of that nature over the years

The whole aspect of the freedab multiplex is to carry all single format Irish internet stations . This well give the listener a wider choice of music rather the one station cramming every format into it . From jazz to rock to pop to country. Call me mad but it just might work .

    Regards .F

Doesn't sound mad at all. Every other country I can think of has been doing it for years.

When does it go live? (I'm down in Cork next week)

Tomorrow we finish testing. The amplifier required is now built and before it was to go on air it had to undergo several tests to make shure it met spectrum requirements . The current location of the multiplex is at ground level we are due to put it into it's permanent home over the next 3 weeks .

Does anyone know if RTE have any plans to extend their DAB radio coverage?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,224 ✭✭✭radioguru02

on what basis are you claiming 3 listeners? i would suggest the fact we still have such services means that a lot more then 3 listeners are listening.

On what basis? :D What number would you put on it then? They should do a DAB only JNLR-type survey. Hardly anyone in this country has heard of DAB. I’m all for people taking a shot at it and if it takes off it takes off, I just don’t see the potential

On what basis? What number would you put on it then?

it is you who made the claim of only 3 listeners. if that was the case the service would be discontinued. therefore your claim is demonstrably false on that basis alone.
They should do a DAB only JNLR-type survey.

i would imagine RTE likely do a survey but keep the results internal. you can do a freedom of information request and find out if that is the case.
Hardly anyone in this country has heard of DAB.

i presume you have asked all of the people? some won't have heard of it but others will have, even if they are not in a position to actually receive it.

shut down alcohol action ireland now! end MUP today!

City and county? .as dab requires a solid signal for receivers to decode saying county is quite vague as in order for solid reception depends on a few factors . Terain . Rms power antenna gain .signal cleanliness e.g signal to noise ratio shoulder hight (minimum -40DB) error protection and so on. DAB broadcasting is quite complex to master and takes allot of patients to understand. We are hoping to finalise the transmittion site over the next 2 weeks and we will get a clear view on the coverage.

    Regards .F

Sorry, I should have been more specific, I'm up in the North East of the county, Mitchelstown/Fermoy area and have an interest in this sort of thing. I suspect I may be out of your signal range, but best of luck with the venture anyway.

RTE's policy for the last 11 years is that there'll be no further roll out unless the independent sector get involved and the independent sector have Zero interest in touching DAB.
