this is one of the best deals this year, for a general purpose laptop, especially for an actual bricks and mortar store. although you don't get this price on web or in shop usually

full 1080p hd screen - 15.6" screen (still very rare at this price)
big hard drive
proper i3 processor (rare at this price). latest 8th gen processor just out.
small downside is 4gb ram but that could be added later. windows will run fine with 4gb by the way.
available in a few colours.

you could get a lesser spec for cheaper but not worth the compromise as most of the cheap ones have bad screens, weak cpus and miminal storage in the form of flash storage -32gb or 64gb which leaves little room for installing programs.

Anyone know if this is a TN panel? IPS would be better, even if smaller resolution IMHO.

probably not if it doesn't say it. you can't have it all for 419 euro!
still full hd though... ips is better for viewing angles off to the side.

I picked up a Lenovo 510 with a really good matt 1080 IPS in Currys last year for the same price, really was a bargain - i3, backlit keyboard, Harmon Kardon Audio.

Before this I had a HP ProBook with TN panel and it was really awful to work on, the colour shift was very distracting. This has made me wary of them.

not all tn screens are bad. they do have some advantages even - better black levels. in fact tn is preferable in a lot of cases in tv's.

there may be some other good deals out there this week for black friday but this is a decent deal.

don't think so. generally only get that on higher-end laptops. (700+)
have not seen one on a low to mid laptop like this.

Yes, that's similar but mine is 15.6" and has (had) a 1TB HD.

Its for my daughter who will only be using it for Roblox and You Tube, £379 seem like a good price to you?

it's decent with sterling not being too strong (use revolut to save on exhange rate - download app to get started). just remember that you'd have to return to uk if anything goes wrong.

It's a much better deal too, lighter & much faster with the SSD. I'd never go back to a regular HDD.

You could upgrade the other laptop to a solid state, but that means opening it and having to install the OS from scratch, which most users would not be comfortable with.

If you need storage, buy a WD portable external drive.

Sorry to jump in - But i'm also looking for Roblox and You Tube laptop for my 10 year old son.

So in the consensus this is the best one out there? Would the smaller screen be a drawback? - 15" to 13"?

This Lenovo IdeaPad is for 479.00 in curry's - It has 7th gen i5 but only 4GB Ram and 128 GB SSD.

yes it's not full hd (1080p)

either original laptop or this one will run sims 4 (2014) fine
