Recording audio and visual music

    Hi All,

Looking for some advise after doing some research but without quite finding what I'm after.
I mainly play guitar but also bass and piano. I'm trying to record visually what I'm playing but with decent quality audio.
I then want to layer the videos of each instrument and layer them over each other so that the entirety makes a full song. Drum tracks and lyrics to be added afterwards.

At present, I record audio through GarageBand on iPad using Apogee Jam giving relatively good quality audio.
I record video through IPhone 6s but only gives very average audio.
Is there a way I can capture good audio and video using iPad/iPhone?
Is there an app I can use to then layer the videos.

Here's an example from YouTube of what I'm trying to achieve, albeit without having a top quality laptop or recording programmes (I do however have a laptop).

I would welcome any help or suggestions.

    Thanks a mill

The easiest option I could find is an app called Gridplay which lets you record multiple layers of video on your iphone 6.

When you buy the app you're limited to 15 second recordings, but if you pay an extra €1.09 it extends the recording length to 5 minutes, meaning songs cannot be any length greater than 5 minutes.

For getting decent audio into the iPhone I was going to recommend the Roland GO:Mixer but I'm not sure if that app is compatible with it.

You would need to be able to select the recording device in the app and change it from the iPhones Mic to the Roland GO:Mixer.

You could also hook the iPad upto the GO:Mixer, as well as keys bass/guitar.

You may not even need to use the Apogee Jam anymore.

So basically try and find out if that App lets you select a different recording device like the Roland:Go Mixer.

I have rewritten this post 3 times, because I was going to recommend using the laptop first and a Video Editor, but that would require having to manually sync the audio tracks in each video with each other and can be time consuming.
