Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Studying Abroad - Grants...

    Anybody know what grants (if any) someone is entitled to coming from Ireland?

    Is there another forum this could be put on? This forum is dead

    Tbh, your question is way to vague to be able to give an answer to. In general though, it depends on the programme you're studying on (Erasmus, Socrates etc), the length of time you're going to be studying abroad and your home university. Some colleges means test students and divide EU grants out based on that; others give an equal amount to each student. This only applies if you're studying in Ireland and want to go abroad for a semester/year. Not sure about doing a full degree abroad.

    Doing a masters in San Francisco State University. Starting Spring 09 for 18 months. Have a bachelor of engineering degree since 2002, worked fulltime up until now. Have never paid taxes or studied in the USA before. Would I be entitled to any grants does anyone know? Thanks

    Strictly speaking not reallyfrom here; though SFSU might have some international scholarships/paid TA assignments etc. and there's always the possibilty of some other internationally funded scholarships. You won't get any local authority grants anyway unfortunately.

    Fulbright but you are too late to apply...are you coming from an NUI? There's a travelling scholarship on the www.nui.ie site, although not sure if that's only for phd's/multiple years of study. Take a look at the nui site anyways. There are websites with lists of grants you can apply for, some are only a grand here and there or whatever but its worth looking at, check www.fastweb.com for more information. TA-ships are the way to go wrt to fees, otherwise you may be paying quite a bit. Hope there's something useful there.
