Jack of all trades, master of none.
Is often better than master of one.

It's better to have an idea. You can change an idea; changing a belief is trickier.

The best financial advice I ever got was from my Mum. “You can borrow money to buy a car or a house. For everything else you have to save up.”

My grandmother in her 80s said something along the lines of

"I realise now that most of what I worried about when I was young was unimportant, trivial shíte. Don't do that"

    Always stuck with me.

Never give your bank details to a Nigerian prince!

It is incredibly the number of Prince's Nigeria has, who all seem to need bank details.

One that has always stuck with me:
'It is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it'.

This is a piece of advice my father gave to me. Now, this not only refers to lagging but all forms of insulation. He said ‘don’t ever’, eh no, wait no. It was ‘ALWAYS, always...al...’ no, no, no. ‘NEVER...’ oh...I’ve forgotten, never mind.

I've always referred to that one as the condom principle :D

Be not the first on which the new is tried, nor the last to cast the old aside.

    and they almost always do.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    My mother’s:
If a job is once begun, never leave it until it’s done
Be the job great or small, do it well, or not at all

    My fathers:
Commenting on people appearance makes you and only you look ugly

    Good advice <3

Live each day as if it were your last. In bed, off your tits on heavy-duty painkillers, slipping in and out of consciousness.

    Love many.
    Trust few.
    Always paddle your own canoe.

And one that is not an aphorism but something I have observed is don't open up your relationship to the world.

Better to be looking at it, than for it
