"Coincidentally Ray Shah had a whinge and rant on Twitter at the improved conditions for bikes around the city. The poor mite, it makes it harder for him to do his job, he claims."

Can you link to this. Like I said, he's a business owner and I'd like to make it clear why I'm boycotting him, so would like to reply. I've already had to boycott one of my favourite vegan protein powder companies cos of a stupid anti-5G email they sent out.

    This is the thread
    https://twitter.com/DublinCommuters/status/1258405771580243978

and his first interaction was this, and the 'debate' continued from then on if you can click into the tweet above.

    https://twitter.com/Ray_Shah/status/1258513200938545152

He doesn't seem to understand he is traffic, and not everyone else around him.
    https://twitter.com/Ray_Shah/status/1258522475983368192

You'd think someone pushing fitness lifestyles would embrace driving a little less.

All Ray Shah is pushing is personal income.

Possibly, but his comments aren't exactly anti-cycling, that I can see. Just typical motorist comments.

Yeah, I did say he was ranting against conditions that made the city an improvement for cyclists (and pedestrians) as opposed to being anti cyclist. He stance is purely selfish though.

Oh, agree. You definitely didn’t misrepresent it. I took it be such myself, so wanted to check before going off on one.

At least Ray (an old neighbour of mine!) has reason to be in the city in his car, I assume he delivers his product around, so I get where he's coming from, but this is a reason we need delivery times earlier than rush hour like they do in other countries.
It's the fact that our city centre is destroyed by cars, mostly driven by people who don't live in the city or wont take public transport or cycle or walk to work, that I find hardest to stomach.
I've seen people on these forums moaning about Dublin trying to get cars out of the city and making their commute worse, and at the same time saying they wouldn't live in the kip because it's full of junkies and they'd never give up their one off house etc. We can't be designing our city around these people.

It's funny with Ray Shah, in the space of a week he's on Facebook strongly advocating for the Bull Island causeway to be permanently closed to cars and then this...

People were going on about how much nicer Killiney hill was without the cars but people who don't live nearby think it should be their right to drive up there and park on the double yellow lines, which they always do. I've been up the hill many times without using a car and I live on the other side of the city.
The same arguments are coming from people regarding the causeway.
People just want to be able to drive wherever they want whenever they want and they mostly get their way, I really hope this car dominance ends it's so much nicer without them.

Priority to be given to cyclists and pedestrians - DCC
Dublin City Council says it will "deal" with any legal challenges to proposed restrictions on private cars in the city centre with more space and priority to be given to cyclists and pedestrians.
    https://www.rte.ie/news/dublin/2020/0511/1137819-dublin-traffic/

i'd be half tempted to tweet arnotts or BT to wag my finger sternly at them, but the poor sod managing the twitter account is not the one who would be best placed to deal with my complaint. wonder how it'd be best to contact them.
plus i'd feel like a hypocrite. we bought a hoover in the arnott's warehouse sale a couple of month's back, out at the national show centre, and we drove there...

You could e-mail or write to them directly. Social media is also good to let others know of what they're up to. You're right about not expecting a reply from the poor sod manning the account but someone higher up will pick up the negative mentions if they snowball.

In terms of the Liffey Cycle Route, one of the many cycling related changes implemented around Dublin, I'm only now seeing how it ends in Hugh PhD's tweet below...

Another letter in today's Irish Times...
    Cycling on footpaths

Sir, – While everybody is looking forward to the new normal as we unwind from lockdown, could I ask cyclists to refrain from cycling on footpaths. I know it appears to be an easy option but is very dangerous to pedestrians, particularly now when space is so important to everyone.

As more people take to cycling to and from work, and also for exercise, the needs of pedestrians are likely to fall further down the pecking order in this regard.

Can I remind any cyclist who may feel tempted to use the footpath for an easier passage that the clue is in the name. It is a footpath! – Yours, etc,

    NUALA DELANEY,
    Killiney,
    Co Dublin.

Wait until Nuala hears what cars do to footpaths in housing estates and city centres around the country.

Discussing the changes in Dublin City on RTE with Owen Keegan at the moment, it's infuriating listening to the texts they chose to read out.

did they mention that keegan hopes to proceed with the white water rafting facility?
