    Hi guys

So 3 guys raining from 26 to 34 want to go away to Europe for the weekend to have a typical lads weekend away partying but also an interesting city to explore by day and experience culture.

We want to be somewhere were none of us were so typical places like Krakow, Amsterdam, Prague, Budapest, Berlin are out. Not interested in the UK.

We're looking at Riga or Bratislava at the moment. No direct flights to Tallinn for some reason in our dates.

12 to 15 October... Saturday to Tuesday. Hoping to still have a decent nightlife experience on Sunday and Monday night but I know that may not be possible...

Madrid is great, not too touristy but nice.

Eindhoven is a great spot too

I'm not a lad, bit have been in both Riga & Bratislava.
Riga gets my vote, bigger city, more nightlife & more to see during the day.

Munich is great, full of history and great beer.
    Same for Prague.

    Madrid is also awesome

I personally wouldn't spend more than 1 or 2 nights in Bratislava, it's pretty thin on things to do, granted it's cheap and would tick the box of a lads drinking trip but other than that I wouldn't be pushed. That said, Vienna is only an hour away and a great city imo so you could fly into Vienna, do a couple of nights and go to Bratislava, do a night and fly back from Bratislava (or vice versa).

I'd recommend Riga though and you could even fit in Vilnius during the trip although it's short enough so might not be worth it to do both as it's a 4 hour journey between them.

Kiev, Ukraine would be my shout if you want something different to what you highlighted in OP. Extremely cheap and plenty to do although at the moment there are only direct flights on Thursday and Sunday so there's not much flexibility in terms of dates.

Hamburg would be another one I'd recommend, went in January with a few friends for a weekend, flights are usually very cheap and it's a brilliant city for nightlife with the red light district and nice to walk around with plenty to see, kind of like a less touristy Amsterdam.

Loved Madrid. Not at all expensive. Packed with interesting culture by day and also nightlife. Walkable but a great metro and bus service. Overall a very relaxed and friendly place and due to the multiple flights daily from Dublin not mega expensive to get to, also not expensive when you get there either.

    Another vote for Madrid here.
Drink until 5am, and also some lovely areas to see.

    Barcelona would be another option.

Places I'd say to avoid would be Paris, Milan, Turin, Rome.

Don’t you have to go through a process of obtaining costly visas

You do but its not that difficult. You need to get an invite but that can be done on the internet and then you apply for a visa. If you do it in good time its painless but costs about 100 all altogether if I remember correctly. If it is a lads weekend away you are going to a city with perhaps the most beautiful women I have seen anywhere, also a night out in Moscow can end up like the movie hangover you never known what you have done or where you are. Its really a great city with good people who are up for a laugh.

there is a direct flight to Moscow now and once you get there its not expensive anymore.

    Vienna is lovely.

You can get a Russian visa for €87 (consulate fee is €77) if you get the invitation from this site: https://visatoruss.com/ It costs €10 and is the cheapest I could find. I used it for my visa and received the invitation within minutes and had no issues at all.

Moscow is one of the safest cities I have been to, it's up there with Zürich and Vienna. You have to go through a security/bag check to a lot of places though which is a bit frustrating though; pretty much all tourist attractions, train stations, shopping centres even. Bags are checked sometimes in metro stations as well. The metro is very cheap, it costs about €0.45 per trip.

I was really surprised about how clean Moscow is (in the centre at least). One time we walked through an underpass and solitary can was the only litter in it. That was dirty by Moscow standards!

Madrid, love that city. Great food nice people and lots to do.

Vilnius is nice in the summer/early autumn but a no-no later..

Hamburg is a great city, actually got brought around by the Mayors wife who was so proud of their two Red Light Districts..

Lisbon I love, friendly people and lots to do.

    Italy... Meh...

Athens... mad night life.. mad coffee culture... mad people....;)

(I dont want to derail the thread BUT...) Could someone please tell me why Eindhoven is such a great place.. This is an honest question... I was bored to death there.

I enjoyed Eindhoven with the wife and daughter, but wouldn't be a place with the lads for a sesh.

    Madrid 100%.

Was there with herself and the kids but you can see the crack you'd have with the lads.

    Great city.

Been to a lot of the places mentioned and I reckon Madrid, Lisbon or Barca would be the ticket
