Expand Your Videos

I was thinking that maybe a cool/interesting video thread might be a good idea to help get this forum going.

Here are two I thought were kinda cool:

The second video is fascinating. Anybody who can create mechanisms so organic in their nature like his machines is an absolute genius.

He reminds me of Theo Jansen, here's a clip which shows a general overview of Theo's work:

Theo gave a Ted Talk a few years back, it's absolutely fascinating. Here it is. What he can do with such simple materials, and his enthusiasm for his creations, is inspiring.

Been meaning to start this thread myself.

By the way, it is very easy to embed YouTube videos on boards. Simply take the last the URL and remove everything from the equals sign back, then wrap it in [YouTube] [/ YouTube] tags (without the space after the slash).

Quote this post, or any post with an embedded video to see what it looks like.

I am well aware of that. But it looks stupid to have one embedded video and one not.

Hence me starting this thread over in dev.

Cool.

That wasn't aimed at you, just a general instruction for people posting. Really like the second vid you posted. Not seen him before; his work is very similar to Theo Jansen's whom I've read about before.

Anyone who went to Lightwave in the Science Gallery may remember this.

Pretty amazing when you consider the fact that every LED has to be sync'd with the speed of the disk.

High resolution photos on the artists site.

LSD - The Beyond Within

I always found this documentary extremely fascinating. Explores a time when psychedelic drugs intrigued scientists and were embraced as opposed to the abhorrance and ignorance which exists for them today.

maybe a bit too light hearted for this forum, but here's a bacon blowtorch

--edit

http://thesciencenetwork.org/program...-consciousness

took me ages to remember where i'd seen this, all in all it's 9 hours (3 3 hour vids) of talks by different people on.. well, brain mind and consciousness. It's well worth watching, been a few years since I did so myself but I was very entertained.

some of the names involved, in case any of them are of interest

Michael Shermer, Roger Bingham, Christof Koch, Alison Gopnik
Richard McNally, Terry Sejnowski, Susan Blackmore

--double edit

Beyond Belief, the science network's boo god yay atheism event. Very interesting, obviously it depends on the speakers.. some are incredibly interesting and informative and some are kinda dull. Many many hours of fun below.

if you dont want to go clicking loads of links for each of the smaller length individual speeches, there are full videos of each session on google video iirc.

Thanks for the links Will. I've merged your thread with this previous one because they were pretty similar, I'm also going to sticky this one now.
