I know a piece of marketing driven damage limitation when I see it.

You should be able to spot it to.

I've no idea what you are going on about, have you some sort of conspiracy theory?

Still don't know if you believe he was even on non road legal 15kW electric bike/motobike at all.

I read in the Netherlands a lot of injuries with older people was not during actual cycling, but getting on or off the heavy bike and falling over. Cowell is 60 but does not appear to be a "doddery auld lad", when I heard the story the first question I had was if it was some souped up ebike. An unintentional wheelie is highly unlikely on a road legal pedelec!

Yeah, pedelecs are really pretty tame. It's very important to distinguish pedelecs (which are basically bicycles with mild assist) and other e-bikes (which are basically motorbikes). That's the way the EU treats them, and it seems a pretty sensible distinction.

I mean, this is the sort of pedelec I see everyday:

And this is Cowell's new e-bike, apparently:

I do actually. Here's one: There are a lot of people in the cycling community who don't actually like cycling! They complain about it all day and are only too pleased to see bikes replaced with electrically assisted BSOs.

I know it sounds far out... it makes no sense, right?...perhaps you have some thoughts on this?

You're going to have to try harder than that.

I'm not sure I understand this. Why would people who are involved in cycling not like cycling?

Or is this another version of mojomaker's "no true cyclist" fallacy?

Just on the e-bike pedelec business, saw this on Twitter:
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2020/08/10/simon-cowell-broke-back-falling-from-motorbike-not-electric-bike/#6772a5bc4d7f
“The Bicycle Association, on behalf of the U.K. cycling industry, would stress that what are usually referred to as e-bikes for sale in U.K. cycle shops have almost nothing in common in technical or safety terms with the electric motorbike which was ridden by Simon Cowell at the time of his [incident].”

The organization adds: “There is very little risk of any electric bike bought in the U.K. causing an unintentional wheelie.”

Seems to have a top speed of about 100km/h, so nothing like a pedelec (motor assists up to 25km/h as you pedal, then motor cuts out).

Maybe "pedelec" just isn't memorable enough a term, but I think they should push the term hard. It's very important it doesn't get confused with electric motorbikes.

New cyclist here. Not shilling but I had a really good experience in cyclezone in Blanchardstown village the other day. The owner (I presume) gave me solid advice and adjusted my handlebars free of charge after I was complaining of shoulder pain while on the hoods.

I also appreciated this at the entrance :)

Jesus christ , the Festka Instagram page is absolute bike porn. I'm just a slack jawed, drooling mess after straying on to it

north east meathy types/louthers - is the bridge over the boyne by the newgrange visitor centre generally public access?
just wondering what's the easiest way to get to cycle past newgrange if coming from the duleek direction. seems the only other options to cross the boyne are at slane or up near townley hall.

Justin really is a top guy. Did a messy job for me just yesterday and charged a very reasonable price. And another quick job a month ago that he didnt charge for.

Haven't crossed it in ages so not 100% if theres anything in place to prevent you from doing so while the centre is closed, I've done it a few times while it's been open for sure. You mention Duleek so you're coming into Donore and making a left there and looking to cross and head towards Newgrange? So head into the carpark and take the path to the left and that will bring you down to the river and the bridge, on the otherside is a carpark too. Now that gate could be closed but you can easily lift the bike over that if it is.

I'm just wondering if you'll get some remote monitored security company telling you via loud speaker the Gardai are on the way :D

The other option is to go right in Donore and take the long way via the next left at the Cottage to go to Oldbridge and on to the N51 and another left. 5km vs 10km to Newgrange from Donore I reckon

Go in the Goods Entrance to the visitor centre and it accessible from there.

I should have added that it is about 100 metres west of the main entrance. If the coffee shop is open, use this entrance also. You can see your bike from inside. (Presumably it's closed at the moment).

iv been keenly supporting this but can't help but feel it makes little difference without enforcement, 30kmph is so easily broken such are cars now

I've put a similar sentiment in the comments, that new and current measures need enforcement.

It was brilliant all along. Snooker has become so boring, player gets in and clears up, nobody wants to watch that, but watching the two lads make mistakes, miss shots was actually great entertainment

It's a bit like listening to old recordings of classical musicians. The odd flub that comes through the live or semi-live performances makes the performances more impressive in a way, certainly more relatable.

snookers like test cricket it cant be so dull for large moments, but then when it comes to life its something else, That Gill Wilson final frame was nuts

    Hi,
Cycling shoes; looking at bright yellow, white or black- link
Is yellow a no,no or are they common & do they help you be seen in any way?

    Cheers,
    Pa.

i have bright yellow ones, they're my dry weather shoes. hard to keep clean, cos no matter what, you're going to end up cycling in mucky weather.
one reason i went for bright shoes was that apparently the motion of your feet while pedalling is more easily picked up by the eye than simple linear motion most of the rest of your body will be doing.
