Grabbed 29th on his last run, still a few cars to go so no guarantees yet.

Next car up goes faster so on the bubble right now.

I presume there's not enough time for Alonso to go again today?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,861 ✭✭✭donspeekinglesh

Unlikely. Other cars in the queue ahead of him. They're really packing the ads in now.

    Bumped, Hildebrand in!

It's over now. Finished 31st. He'll have to try again tomorrow.

No all done, in a shootout tomorrow fir the last three spots with Hinchcliffe, Chilton, O'Ward and Karam.

There's some big names trying to get the last 3 spots, hard to call :)

It was obvious from Day 2 that Mc Laren were in serious trouble, they seriously under estimated Indy.

I do hope Alonso qualifies tomorrow as a world champion and a top quality driver

Is this a pure McLaren effort this time or is there any input from Andretti like last time he ran this race?

Ironically it's lIve on Sky Sports F1 - IF Alonso qualifies will McLaren top brass go to Monaco or Indy ?

No Andretti support this time. They linked up with Carlin, who are struggling too.

The fact McLaren and Alonso are involved makes it an F1 topic. They are looking at this as more important than Monaco it seems.

Pigot fastest on the Saturday. If it rains all day tomorrow, which is a possibility, he gets the pole; well deserved the lad!

Rest of the fast 9: Power, Pagenaud, Newgarden, Herta, Jones, Carpenter, Rossi and Bourdais.

Pippa, and the Dragonspeed with Ben Hanley made the field!

Nando resigned to the last row shootout; along with Hinch, Karam, O'Ward, Chilton and Kaiser. Which three make it in will definitely be interesting - three of the six cars are Carlin cars, and three of the six are backup cars.

Quarter past five for the back row, and an hour later for the fast nine.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Well, here comes the Indiana weather

Last row shootout will be run as soon as it feasibly possible, even if that means tomorrow.

Why did McLaren go with Carlin and why did Alonso agree to it too?

Only option really. Couldn't go back to Andretti, or any of the Honda teams, as Honda didn't want them.

As for Alonso, don't know. Maybe he really wants two legs of the triple crown to be with the same team.

Half way through the back row runoff. Good speeds from Hinch and Alonso. Not good from Chilton.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,861 ✭✭✭donspeekinglesh

Chilton out, Alonso in 33rd with two cars to go

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,403 ✭✭✭Harika

Mclaren had different ideas how that might pan out

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,403 ✭✭✭Harika

    Yeah great success

Alonso out. Beaten by a car with no sponsorship by 0.019mph!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,616 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

That was tight. Shame for Alonso.

Very disappointed for Alonso ,annoyed with McLaren, yes things can go wrong and even PensKe have missed out in the past but the warnings have been there since Monday and not having a back up Oval car and losing a day of practice after the crash (noting Ganassi were back on track within hours) highlight imho a complete underestimation of what is required for Indy.

There is the option to buy out another drive - it's the car that is qualified not the driver....

Imagine if he bought out Herta's car for the race. Herta has plenty of years ahead of him, Alonso, not so much.

We know Honda-powered cars are off limits for Alonso. What are his options for a buy-to-drive?
