Cluster 71 is interesting but tough going too,
I was doin abit of deep listening on it one night then when the album finished i had the Conet project disc 1 cued up, the swedish rapsody came on and frightened the **** outta me, I put the experience down to the atmospheres created on the cluster album then hitting in with the disembodied voices of the Conet Project, scary :-)
emusic.com has Amon Dull2 stuff up there as well as Neu!, Faust and other Krautrock acts. Have Harmonica, Ash Ra Tempel stuff wish listed in amazon too, hard to find this stuff on legal download sites.
Anyone know where you can download a pdf copy of Cope's Krautrocksampler? Not available in english anymore for realistic money.

Downloading this stuff is practically non existent. Luckily for me I travel to Germany annually and I stock up. Ultima Thule records in Leicester do mail order, some of their stock is second hand so its a bit cheaper too. Also for Ashra Tempel/Cosmic jokers you can try

As for a pdf version of krautrocksampler I hope it doesnt exist making my copy virtually worthless (I bought it for 120e). Its not all that in my opinion, a good beginners guide perhaps. Crack in the cosmic egg is better and free online

Hey psychonav the Roedilius gig you mention is that to coincide with his new album release on 'Sidesteps' the Psychonavigation label? also is it a private concert or is it open to the general public?

Hey folks.

I'm a fan of the more electronic aspects of German music from this time (Krautrock is considered insulting by most of the people involved).

Harmonia, Cluster (also Kluster), Neu!, La Dusseldorf.

And while I dig Amon Duul 2, Can and Popol Vuh, the kinda hippy vibe grates with me.

I f**king hate hippies.

Soul Jazz have two krautrock compilations well worth checking out. Great track selection (no kraftwerk though) and excellent booklets.

^ I have volume one and it's an incredible collection, although the choice of Can tracks is questionable. I've never liked the term 'krautrock', I've always felt 'kosmische' was more apt.

There's a book, Future Days, by David Stubbs which I'm currently reading.
I'd recommend it. It does a good job of tying the "Kosmische" in with what was happening at that time in Germany.
So for that, it's very interesting.

He does use the term, "Krautrock", but explains why. He doesn't do so in an ignorant way.

Anyway, I'd recommend it, especially since the Cope book is out of print and changes hands for silly amounts of money.

+1-great book...there are a few pdf's of Cope's book around if you do a search for krautrocksampler pdf on google you'll get one

Got these on vinyl, love listening to them.

Anyone see Michael Rother at the Village a couple of years ago? Fantastic gig and he got a great reception. Definitely going to start reading Future Days soon, it's been on my list for a while!

However, I cannot listen to wailing guitars for very long.
