Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    21 is fine to get a game going. I'd love to have about 27-30 just for the set up that we are thinking on going with but that can be adjusted easily.

    Example.

    20 players
    4 are wolves
    16 are villagers.

    Wolves kill a person every night, announced at 10am, then the villagers confer and vote to kill someone at 10pm. The wolves hide among the sheep and try to pass themselves off as villagers, and the villagers have to try to root out who the wolves are based on what you say, how you react and how you vote.

    The wolves know the other wolves but the villagers are all clueless.

    Eventually all the wolves will have been killed and the villagers win, or there will be the same amount of wolves and villagers, in which case the wolves win.

    Get a bit more complex as teams will have different powers and stuff but that's the game at its simpliest.

    Best way to play is jump straight in

    The "other stuff" is hugely daunting when you read an OP, but once you're playing it, and concentrating mostly on your own role, it all comes together, sorta. None of us, or at least very few of us, that have played really know what we're doing. We just stumble along, doing our best, enjoying ourselves. If the game has piqued your interest, give it a shot, see how you get on. Warning though - you might just get hooked!

    Fully agree with this, if you concentrate on the game rules and roles announcement you'll just tie yourself up in knots and make it all seem more daunting. Best bet is to dive in and go with the flow... Best way to learn... Consider it as "on the job training".

    Just jump in and play. It becomes much clearer as a player than as a spectator - much more engrossing and entertaining.
