Right!! Never really thought i would say this on the internet but I know what this girl is going through!!

I have PCO and cant shift the weight!! I am not lazy in fact i love LOVE swimming and basketball!! I have 3 dogs and we have the road worn away out side my house.

I am getting the gastric bypass done! NOT the banding not the balloon because the danger in them seems to be more than the bypass.

The bypass is difficult! Its not easy its not a magically operation. You can eat very little and its tough!!

You have to be trained you cant get it done then stuff your face, You have to remember that your vitamins are important so they are always to be taken first. You wont have room for sweets or crap.

But its like you cut off your finger and then take a nurafen. your not getting to the root of the problem. People eat to comfort themselves 9out of 10 do. Write down the time and what you eat for a couple of days you will see if there is a pattern.

I went to my doctor I said I want to have kids and I cant fight the PCO she agreed with me. I need to lose weight to have kids the PCO prevents me from losing weight. horrible circle

I am going to the Bons in cork its 15,000 but i could go to a cosmetic sugery practice but i know of people who did and because the surgeron messed up the operation and denied it was his fault the person had to fork out more money to have a second operation.

for the sake of 5,000 I will pay to go to the bons. The doctor is brillant and my gp knows him she said she hates any of these operations and nearly gave me an exam on what i knew to make sure I know what i am getting my self involved in.

I could died during or after the op! But i could die out walking my dogs down the road trying to lose weight! or my heart being crushed by my weight at night could kill me.

Its a chance i will take because hopefully I will be back in hospital and looking in to the eyes of my baby, and smiling to my self knowing that it was all worth it!

PM me if you would like to talk in private

    Silently loud

    Hi everyone,

So glad I found this thread, It makes you reallt consider the pro's & Con's...

I am 25 years old, little baby....

I have also been a larger girl smallest being an size 18....
Between the age of 20-24 my size crept up to a 22 - 24 (21st), During my
pregnancy i suffered constant morning sickenss and left the hospital a size 20 which was fantastic, but then the curse of Maternity leave set in and my weight has really jumped in the 8 months I am now a size 26.

I have tried so hard with diets, gyms, ect I even tried the lipotrim but it was extream and also the feed back I was getting was that when poeple on it start eating again they had put most if not all back on!

I got my GP to refer me to a consultant in Tallaght Hospital 4 years ago, he explained that my options were, dieatition, tablets or he could refer me to loughlinstown hospital for the Gastric Band/bypass, I decided to start with the diatition so I could rule the above out before I opted for the Gastric Band/bypass. I attended 3 times (I find Dietitions usless as they only tell me what I know myself and have tried so hard to implement in my life) & my father took seriously ill so I stopped going.

I am going to go back to my GP to refer me again as at this point it's my health im classed as morbadly obeese, its not healthy and if im honest it has a knock on effect to my relationship with my partner as I am depressed over my size, I dont feel in any way attractive any more and have lost interest in myself! Lucky for me my partner is amazing!

My big question is, Do the Tablets work?
Do I pass this option to go straight for the OP....

Also can the Gastric Band/bypass be done publicly or do you have to pay the huge cost to do this.....?

Id love all your advice as I really feel I need to do something drastic now otherwise I am risking my life for food, feels more like an addiction now then ever!!!!

    Hi Ash83,

I had my band fitted the end of October. I Went to Birmingham to get the proceedure and I paid privately £5,000 which I think is around €7,000. I am still in the learning stages. Last week I went to Belfast to have an xray to make sure the band was in place and everything seems to be fine. I am waiting for the "HOSPITAL GROUP" ( The company that did my operation) to contact me to have my first fill which will be to have the opening of the stomach made smaller by inflating the band that was fitted so I will eat smaller portions. At the moment i'm having some trouble passing certain foods and I end up gettting sick but this is normal until I learn what to eat and what not to eat. As it is so near Christmas I might opt to get the fill in early january which is done by injection because it will be trial and error for the first few months I expect, so I don't want to have this problem around Christmas.I,m glad I had the band fitted and am looking forward to losing weight and feeling and getting healthier and most of all blending into the crowd. Seemingly you can cheat the band by eating the wrong things but common sense should tell you this. If you need anymore information I will gladly help you. If you can get it done private as I heard the waiting period is long to have it done publically...............Kittybuck

Hi there, I have dealt with the hospital group .. for for fills of the gastric band and for appointment refferals , they are very professional and informative ... best of luck with it... trust me it is worth it

thanks sunflower good to hear from someone who has used them. Have you lost much weight yet or had any complications with the band?

    hi ya....

I have lost 6 stone in total, new lease of life from it .... Be prepared for the cost of the new wardrobe !!!!!

While I had no real problems with the band , I would recommend you do not eat out with friends or folk who may not know about your band until tou are comfortable with your eating habits ...

I would suggest you loose the weight slowly , with a bit of excerise added in

I'm thuinking of having the gastric bypass or gastric band is there any clinic in cork that do this operation?

Gastric Bypass Surgery is available in <pm me for details>

Mod edit: Details removed - this thread is ripe for spam. Cloudnine, if people want the info, I'm assuming it's ok if they ask you for this info over PM?

We generally are suspicious of people posting info like this as their first post. I'm not making any accusations - I know sometimes the urge to help is the reason move from lurker to poster - but if you're on the level, PM should be fine :)

    thanks.

I'd just like to apologise for not noticing the amount of crap in this thread sooner.

It is very helpful to moderators when regular users use the 'Report Post' function (the little exclamation mark icon) if they notice anything untoward in a thread. All moderators are e-mailed a link and it gets dealt with quickly.

have you any idea what this is like to weigh 18-20 stone obviously not or you would not be up on your high horse. Some people have the SELF DISCIPLINE as you call it and end up with anorexia nervosa.

You make me so angry if we could do it ourself dont you think we would I too have lost vast amounts of weight only to find it has all gone back on and more with it.

I say to the person going for gastric band DO IT and get the help you need to get healthy again. to those who dont know what its like just shut up will ya!!!!!!

I'm not trying to be insensitive but I cannot understand how you could successfully go from size 12 to 18 stone after loosing so much weight through proper diet and exercise and not by crash dieting. How did you lose all the hard formed healthy habits that you must accumulated during that period?

You must have some serious self discipline issues that should be looked at before you consider a drastic, easy option surgery. I have read articles about women who have had the surgery only to be crippled by nutrient absorption issues leading to loss of teeth and hair among other debilitating complications.

Surely you will admit that many people are overweight due to ignorance of proper diet and exercise needs, the function of metabolism and so on.

You are armed with the knowledge and experience but you have let yourself slip, find some inner courage and put in the hard work again (you have done it before so why not do it again?) but maintain it this time. You will be healthier and happier.

Putting the weight back on has been a set back, learn from your failure and become slimmer and healthier than ever.

    Hey Guys!!

I just stumbled upon this thread and i feel alot that has been said is me!! I have struggled with my weight for ever and have lost it all and gained etc... I am now at the point where its either a feast or a famine.. I feel like sh1te most of the time.

A favourite saying of mine lately is "start monday".. so i decide that for that week i will eat all the crap and get it out of my system (99% percent of it i dont actually enjoy). I just eat it coz its going to become the forbidden food..so i kid myself eat the crap and of course monday never comes...

This monday it has and i hope after reading this thread, I WILL continue. I have to!!!! I dont want a gastric band!! The problem is my head not my stomach! I totally understand people that want them and believe me im tempted but for me i dont think it will "cure" me.. I am so mad at myself, i put all this hard work in before and now i weigh 1stone heavier than before!!

The frustration is there so now i can hopefully turn it back to motivation and desire... to be the person i want to be....:)

Ps... i tried xenical and found them absolutely awful!!! i even ate really good on them but the side effects were highly embarrassing and strange!!! Major leakage!!:D Love to hear anyones success stories with regards to any pills that can supplement my new healthy attitude to food and assist with my weightloss.. NO FADS Thou!! i think we all have had enough of them!!

Oh Tina.... Good luck with it!! If you dont mind answering?how much do you weigh?? I weigh 14stone 8lbs. What are there requirements? obviously at that weight im obese but how long did you have to wait for appointment with beacon and did you need a referral??

I dont know too much about it but your right to worry coz it means your thinking it through. You can't go into without giving it serious thought and you will have to mind yourself and make sure to do everything they say. but you will have a new lease of life and at 25 theres no better time to start!! btw how much? or do you have medical insur??

Keep me posted love to know how your getting on!!:)

Hi Tina best of luck please keep us posted on your progress...........

I am seriously thinking of getting a gastric bypass done, I hate being so fat, ive tried all sorts of diets/pills/excercise but it keeps piling back on.

Is there anyone who's had a bypass done in any of the hospitals in Galway?

Hi, I am new to this site. I have decided to go ahead with having a gastric band and am having my consultation tonight. I feel so guilty for spending £5,500 that I don't have but I too feel that life is slipping by and I don't want in 10 years time to be full of regrets by not having had it done. Does anybody else feel like this?

I am going through <mod edit> a company </mod edit> but seriously looked into going to Brussels but unfortunately the cost does not cover you for transfusions if needed, intensive care if needed etc. Does anybody know of a cheaper company in England?
