Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Hi All,

    I have 5 ponies that I stable every night. Now that the weather is improving, I'm wondering is stabling required at night now? I'm not entirely sure if I should stick to the routine of putting them in every night or not.

    Are they clipped ? Rugged ? Have you turn out for them that has some shelter ?
    And the last few nights here colder than many over the winter !

    I'm afraid there is no Yes or No answer to your question, OP. There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration, and while one horse will be perfectly okay going out at night, another would suffer for it. To add to the questions already asked: how old are the ponies? Do they have any health issues? Are they used to being outside? Are they hardy native ponies? Are you further north in the country where temperatures at or below freezing at night, or further south where it's above freezing?

    So for example; an unclipped, healthy, 8 year old Connemara who normally lives out would likely have no issues with staying out at night. A 20 year old, clipped thoroughbred with arthritis, who spends most of the time in a stable, will not be comfortable outside at night yet.
