    BSc Biochemistry UCC.

Currently doing a MSc in Bioinformatics with Systems Biology (first year it's running in UCC).

Next up - Hopefully PhD in University of British Columbia (Vancouver Canada). Will be applying in the states too. Want to study microRNAs - not sure in what area yet though - their role in disease states / differentiation of embryonic stem cells. Not even sure if i'd do it through the bioinformatics or biochemistry departments. Lots of decisions to make.

Just wondering how many users have a formal qualification in a Biological science and how many just have a general interest in all things Biological. :)

I studied Biology and Maths during my degree but Biology was my main subject and the one I chose to honour in. Then I moved on to a PhD, got my viva in 2001 and now work in Medical Communications.
Yes, have a degree and some post. grad stuff. Have set up a few website over the last few years in an effort to get prople interested in wildlife. For biodiversity stuff see www.biology.ie for lichens see www.lichens.ie and for phenology see www.naturescalendarireland.com
My original interest when I was at school was wildlife.... but a biology degree knocked that out of me, so these are my efforts to return to wildlife.
    Cheers.

Currently a 2nd year undenominated science student in NUIG studying Microbiology, Zoology and Botany.
Really enjoying it all but will have to make a decision regarding the subjects for next year!!!!!

I like the botany course but don't really like the labs and at the same time I like the zoology labs but am not too keen on the course.......don't mind the course content but really dislike the "cladograms" etc part of it

Will most likely continue with the microbiology side of it right through to 4th year:)

Did my BA in Microbiology in Trinners and now I'm up north doing an MSc in Biomedical Science.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

Wildlife people in Ireland are mean as hell. They hide their data and don't pass on information about their studies. They don't even share wildlife photos! Its mine - push off.
I worked in an Irish University and for two years I didn't even know what the fellow I shared an office with was doing. Its a crazy country.
I have now moved into compuer science and its so much more open with good sharing and discussions that help progress science.
Wildlife people also try to cloak what they know in scientific terms - they are incapable of saying something as simple as 'I counted 25 frogs in the field yesterday'. Actually, what am I saying! - they won't even say they were counting frogs - sorry - they will deny being in the field!
There are no really informative web sites on Irish wildlife! Can you name one?

Got a BSc Degree in Biosciences in 2009, in my 4th year studying for an BSc honours degree in industrial biology, sitting exams next week but don't know where to go after that, can't find work placement. Maybe someone can help.
