Trad Flute - Beginner Resources (books, online, etc)

    Hi all,

    I have been keen for years to learn the trad flute, I played the fiddle for a few years in my early teens, and a few years of classical piano training, but no experience with wind instruments. Can't read sheet music really, (never could, always played by ear, to the frustration of teachers).

    I've taken the plunge and just ordered a Tony Dixon tuneable practice flute,

    and while I am looking for a teacher over here (Liverpool), I am looking around for decent resources to start myself off on the right foot.

    I see lots of people recommending these 2 books:

    -'The Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle' by Grey Larsen
    -'A Complete Guide to Learning the Irish Flute' by Fintan Vallely

    I work best with video and audio, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any decent Youtube channels with tutorials for complete beginners, or indeed any other online or book resources that are worth a look?

    Finally, any top tips of bad playing habits to steer clear of?

    Cheers Páid, I've had a look at C&F, but the amount of info there is a bit overwhelming and advice varies a lot from member to member as you can imagine.

    I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to contact Comhaltas about a teacher yep, but will continue to try. I'm surprised that it's so tricky to find trad teachers given the number of Irish people here. Will ask again via the Irish centre.

    My next course of action is to check in with the musicians at my local session to see if they can recommend anyone.

    Already signed up to OAIM, which I'm enjoying, but the embouchure is proving very elusive, and I think before I get too frustrated it may be best to find a teacher.
