Pup after illness benefit

Hi there, I've been signed off work the last 8 weeks by my gp and claimed illness benefit. I was due to go back to work on Monday but
I received an email from my work telling me there isn't enough work for me at the moment and I should claim the pup payment, I rang citizens information to see what the situation was and they said as I was on illness benefit I wouldn't have a PRSI contribution in the last 4 weeks so may not be entitled to pup. She suggested my employer might pay me a days wages so that I would get the PRSI contribution.
Has anyone else been in this situation? Thanks
