Looking to get a leak repaired in the D9 area.
    Standard semi-d residence.
Relatively minor leak which tends to recur when rain from a southerly direction. Ceiling damage in one upstairs bedroom.

Any recommendations appreciated. I know there's a lot of cowboys in the business.

Be very careful of any roofing 'business' that uses 1 or 1a Fairview Strand in Dublin as their business address (and there are lots of them).
Have a look at it on Google Streetview. It has been derelict years.

Many of the 'We're in the area doing gutters and we will suddenly find you need work costing a thousand euro and strong arm you to the ATM to pay' merchants use that address. They specialise in old people living on their own.

Do a whois on any website you get off a leaflet put in your door. Many of these cowboys have very convincing websites, all different names, all registered to the same small group of people. Would a legit company need a whole load of aliases?

Just wanted to say thanks for this recommendation. We had a somewhat similar situation to the OP Wednesday night and gave Ken a call yesterday. What a lovely & thoroughly professional man! He had the problem sorted by last afternoon. Thanks again.

No bother at all, glad I could help - I'll make sure the parents hassle him for a discount next time he's out at ours :D

    Thanks

Can anyone I gave the contact details confirm that Ken is still roofing?

    Hi there,
I was in touch with Ken recently to ask him to come back and look at something for us. It seems that he's got a lot of work on at the moment so perhaps that's why it's hard to get hold of him.

    Hi Gavin

Would it be possible to get Kens details please?

    Thanks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,962 ✭✭✭✭Gavin "shels"

Hi rockatansky, my mam was only chatting to him the other day to get something done on our house and he said he's up to his neck at present so you may be waiting a while to get something done from him. PM though if you don't mind waiting.

If anyone is looking for a reliable roof specialist in the Drumcondra area I can highly recommend Ken from Able roofing. He's a one man outfit, the sort you can ring up in a pinch and he'll come out. I don't have anything to do with the business, just using him for years.

    Cheers for this.

Recently moved into Drumcondra and needed someone to take a look at the roof. This then became more urgent when a slate came off the roof in the strong winds a while back.

Got in contact with Ken Kingham from Able Roofing who surveyed the roof and replaced the slates (there were a few missing) with originals. The great thing was he did the work when we were in work and we paid him the next day. I would be happy to get Ken out again to work on the roof.
