Thinking about giving this a go in the new year if I can get rid of my current car privately. Sounds fairly intimidating though so I'm a bit weary.

The best way to approach car auctions is not to be under pressure. You shouldn't be needing to buy a car on the day of an auction, you need to have time, time to look at the cars and get used to the surroundings!

Why not, if time allows you, pop out and just watch a couple of auctions before you are ready to buy a car? It take a bit of getting used to but certainly there are great bargains to be gotten!

Thanks

This is correct IF the €200 fee applies to all buyers.

If the €200 fee only applies to non-dealers the hammer price would not adjust and the outcome would indeed be a gouging of private buyers.

Acution fees that only apply to a subsection of buyers would likely be illegal under consumer law and the unfair commercial practices directive.

This is not being made clear here.
