I listened to about 5 mins of her show, turned it off, dire. I did start a thread on here about 6 months after her Dad died because she started to pop up on everything and anything on RTE from the Late Late Show, radio to the Afternoon Show. Specialized on giving us entertainment reports she just read off a Hollywood gossip blog 2 mins prior to going on air. As a previous poster said Expose standard stuff. It was in the stars that she would get a job with RTE no matter what because no other newbie out of the broadcast school got so much air time.

it's not her fault though...and many of the posts were personal

Were they? Of the 92 posts in the thread, 3 could be said to be personal. I don't think that many posts have been deleted either. Have those accusing this thread of bullying Lottie Ryan actually read the thing.

Well i suppose she had to start somewhere.

So, instead of using the bullying card and the 'its not her fault' card, defend her by stating why you think she is worthy of a, i anticipate, healthy wage packet for working for our state brodcaster.
    what is her wage packet?

I did hear Lottie on radio one day doing a young persons guide to festivals, got the impression she was never at a festival (properly).

Of course i dont know that exact figure. I never said I did. But you and I both know, as i have stipulated, that it is sure to be a more than decent figure. But lets not stray off topic. Its not her decision to be paid a good wage, its Rtes.

i doubt she is on good money though

What is 'good' money. For what she contributes, i envisage she is on great money! Why wouldnt she be, working for RTE, whose rationale beween wages/talent is completely skewed. What would you think shes earning, roughly?

why don't ya mod then. This thread is full of bullying and bitterness

    I wouldn't personally say that.

Clearly there is an element of that, but that is almost always the case when it comes to the financial black hole that is RTE.

There have been some good points made in the thread, namely that she isn't really fit for the position she is in and that nepotism has clearly played a large role in her RTE career.

She's obviously getting in there ahead of others that are far more qualified.

That's how things often go in this country though unfortunately.

Yes but is this traditional RTE Nepotism that forces the better media talent who don't have a father, brother, sister, mother, uncle, aunt at RTE to leave the country. Anyone checked out France 24 lately, there must be 6-7 Irish working on screen and many more behind the camera. i wonder how many of them have/had relatives working in RTE?

She didn't just walk into a prime time slot either???
I'm no fan at all but she's gone through college, started with a few mins of a slot and now gets a chance to cover a holiday... I'd call that starting fairly low down.

What hospital radio was that again?................

@ niallam : 'im no fan'. Precisely. This sums it up. She has had ample opportunity to showcase herself in 3 years in RTE and is yet to win over the public. Yet it is inevitable that she will still gain higher status and responsibility despite her (in my opinion) seemingly inadequacies. Her own radio show, and the inevitable 'LOTTIE GOES . . . ' tv series. By all means she deserves a chance but that chance needs to be based on talent, not pedigree.

I actually stopped listening to 2FM altogether and probably thanks to her (and hector's posh Navan accent), saying i'm no fan is putting it lightly. The sound of her voice and lack of knowledge actually annoys me :)

She's used her fathers name to get where she is today in her chosen profession but given any chance 90% of people would have no problem doing the same.

That's a good point. It's kinda dawned on me recently, why is there so many Irish people on UK tv, and some of the blame must lay at the feet of RTE and their inbred and over paid culture. Off the top of my head there's Graham Norton and Dara O' Briain doing their own shows, Sky Sports News has an Irish presenter who was on Ireland AM recently saying she just couldn't get a job in Dublin so had to leave, there's the MTV/I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here presenter and probably more I just can't think of right now. Plenty of comedians and chefs pop up over there too.

even if you just look at Linehan, O'Briain and Norton....they're practically the elite "darlings" of the BBC and wouldn't have got a look in over here!!

You take every opportunity in life. However, this isnt the point of this thread, and thats why having to repeat this is becoming a tad infuriating. The point is this thread is a criticism of how the internal politics and recruitment of RTE works, with the main emphasis on nepotism and long term contracts. There are countless examples of people who have taken advantage of this (type in 'the rte family' to politics.ie for some examples) but a few, such as Ryan Tubridy, Eileen Dunne, Cathal Murray and anton savage have proved capable in forging a decent repetoire as a brodcaster. Others like Larry Gogans son, the late john bowman jr and Lottie had or havent the same degree of success. Yet RTE will persist with her and grant her opportunities (which you cant blame her for taking) that other people wont. This is a go at the RTE practice, and unfortunately for Lottie, being an example to qualify the debate will mean she is scrutinised here.

Re 'that sky sports' presenter, her name is Rachel Wyse. And trust me, she has had PLENTY of døors opened due to who she knows. For example, she writes a very, very mediocre, cringy weekly piece in the Saturday Indo. Her face and name is plastered on the back/front page of the paper as if she is chief sportswriter and she is regularly mentioned in radio/tv ads for the paper also. Her boyfriend at time of appointment: Cian O' Connor, godson of Denis O' Brien, ceo of Independent newspapers. Imagine you were a seasoned writer like Damien Mcllroy, colm Keys or henry winter and her piece was highlighted over yours.

Your point.... So don't get too tired that you keep having to make your own point clear to yourself.
Everyone else is just on about Lottie Ryan as the thread title says and her presentation "skills" ;)

I agree the thread started out that way, but if you read the majority of the posts, the real debate has been regarding the pros/cons and ethics of appointing family members in a state company. I think the 'debate' as to her presenting skills is null and void as most everyone that has commented has had a somewhat less than positive opinion of these 'skills'. And those that havent have yet to offer any positive review of her. So if you are just trolling Niall, try again. No need to be a smart @r$€; ;-)

Says the person with 21 posts in the thread, and you have had a new opinion in each one... smart @r$€; ;)

Ive maintained a consistent opinion throughout? In fact, i seem to have the same opinion as you so what is the point of this! So lets leave it at that?

It seems RTE's chat show arena both in terms of presenters and guests are a clique and have a closed door to many. Perhaps Tubridy precided over the poorest season of the Late Late Show ever in 2012-2013 (and 2011-2012 was not much better - he tended to make an effort in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons) but still remains at the top because he is keeping the door closed to guests not favoured by whoever is in charge of RTE's chatshow culture.

Thats true, Liz Bonnin, Laura Whitmore and Amanda Byram also had luck across the waters.

Bonnie Ryan also appeared on the last season ofLate Late Show where she sang her new song, a big gig for for someone so young and relatively inexperienced.

Intern so that could mean she got the coffee.

I did come across this statement from her regarding radio in one of those rambling drivel Lifestyle articles that the Indo uses as polyfiller at weekends,

    Independent 2010
In the first month or so after the unimaginable happened, Lottie's name was often touted as a possibility to replace her father on air. Is she asked a lot about doing radio? "All the time," she says in a voice tinged with disbelief. "It's just, not happening. I didn't specialise in radio in college," she says with a tiny show of irritation, understandable in one who is not content to rest on the laurels of others. "I specialised in television, and -- not that I'm not flattered that people would think I would be good on radio, but the shoes are just too big to fill -- I think I'd spend most of my life with comparisons. And I'm never going to be as good," she says firmly. "I'm never even gonna come close. And it's not where my heart is. My heart is in television. Not that I don't love being in a radio studio. I do; I grew up in them. I do get a buzz being in them. But it's just not where I see myself going in life. My main focus, anyway."

The Ryan daughters will be on RTE a lot I predict in varied roles over the coming years.

    Well that escalated fairly quickly!

I'm looking forward to fact-based journalist Niamh Horan's interview with Lottie in this Sunday's Indo entitled "cyber bullies won't stop me succeeding in my dream job" (and subsequent weekly updates) and/or her interview with Tubs when The Late Late returns......all of which will ironically boost her profile.
