Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Returning to Ireland - HSE call for expat staff to return home

    Guys- any idea what the story is with Irish doctors who are returning home to assist with the Covid pandemic- many of whom have said they do not intend to go back (to ZA, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere) and want to reclaim their apartments and other dwellings they've let- but they now can't serve notice on tenants- and have no-where to live.

    I'm personally familiar with 2 A&E doctors and 1 PED doctor- who are couch surfing with friends- as they're banned from serving notice to get their apartments' back for personal use (and all of whom intend to stay at home, if circumstances allow).

    While tenancy rights have been strengthened- we do critically need to attract our doctors and other critical staff home- but refusing to allow them serve notice so they will have somewhere to live- just doesn't really add up..........

    I know we are in exceptional times- however, surely every possible measure should be used to make things as easy as possible for returning doctors?

    Particularly in the case of key personnel- surely there should be some exceptions to the new rules?

    Fully agree with you but not sure what can be done. I have an empty unit and have made it available to a doctor returning to Ireland - we shared a mutual friend so I was aware of their predicament...
