That works for me.. but even with the €20 discount, it's still cheaper to go with another supplier

Can you share the other supplier with us ?

All depends on where you are in the country
www.cheapestoil.ie has a few suppliers in cork for €680 for 1000L

Top in cork are €710 for 100L , less the €20 discount.

I've used TOP a good few times, and never a problem or issue.
But I've used MJK a lot more recently as they are almost always cheaper.

I always check the prices of various suppliers and TOP is usually cheapest, especially with the codes. I also like that I get a text when they have been and that they always close the garden gate behind them when they leave.
Only once they didn't make the delivery day, but they rang me in the morning to say they had issues and to check that I wasn't out of oil/had enough until the next day. Not an issue as I don't let the oil level run into the "danger zone".

Seems top oil have increased by €19 for 500L in last two days. Imagine it's due to the attacks in Saudi.

Oil has gone up by circa €70 per 1,000L in the last couple of weeks. Anyone that is ordering should ask their supplier why this is the case. As I understand it the oil that is been purchased now by the consumer was bought by the supplier about 6 months ago and should not been affected by recent events.

Nope, refined fuel is bought very close to sale date. Usually, excluding emergency reserves, only about 10 days refined fuel is in the storage tanks.
There was an immediate spike in refinery prices at the weekend on top of the seasonal home heating refinery increases.

You can find details of spot prices for all commodities on most financial websites

Just had a look - heating oil spot prices rose 10% between the 28th Aug and 4th September. Moved down 3% the following week and jumped another 10% last weekend, but has dropped back 5%.
Still 12% higher than 29th Aug.

https://finance.yahoo.com/ go to markets, then commodities

Yes. We're getting a carbon tax increase so that will push it up

Rumours it might be delayed until after winter.

But petrol and diesel won't be.

    Just saw this thread.

I posted in a petrol price thread that oil fell to an 18 month low last Friday (funny, the media have no interest in positive news)

I would wait a couple of weeks to fill up as you'll see 1000 litres well under €700 by then

Where did you get that price. It's 70 euro cheaper than the cheapest I could get.

Hi, general question from a novice: in the list of important things to be looking out for, where would length of the log figure?

I ask this because the guy I got my wood from last year cut the logs for me to 40cm because the opening of the stove is 42cm.

I am thinking that this is a disadvantage when buying the wood in bags but an advantage when burning but not sure which side to lean towards...

My stove is a 21KW Mulberry Beckett stove (14ish to 9 rads and 7ish to room) in case that makes a difference
