    I can heartly recommend ...

www.craftsupplies.ie is an online craft supply shop, but the delivery time is excellent. I ordered stuff on a monday and was opening my parcell on wednesday. It takes laser as well as the usuall credit cards so its handy.

I have to admit I find Inspiring Ideas a rip off shop. They sell their fabric by the yard ? Who works in yards anymore. And they are so so stingy with their measurements .... I have never gotten anything the smallest bit bigger than a yard.

*two hours later...* I've been website hopping..hid the cc!!

I just thought I'd let you know that this on line shop is now open to the public. It's open on three days I think but you'll have to visit the site for the hours and days. I've been down there and they have some fabulous stuff. I have ordered lots of times on line but when I went to the shop they have so much more. And like anything it's better IRL. It's easy to find once you get over the lost part of your journey:)

Hey Rushem - I ended up using E-bay and ordering from the UK. YOu need to be ordering quite a bit to make the postage worth while - it's the same shipping price for 2kg as it is for 22kg!

Hi. I am actually looking for a really good fine art supplies shop in Dublin - not crafts, but top of the range oils (Old Holland and stuff like that) great pastels (Senellier and Unison)and big, well made canvases. Anything like that here?

    Hi,

I order almost all my artstuff here http://www.greatart.co.uk/About-us--6.html they have everything , starting from craftmaking stuff up to highly professional art stuff .
They are in the UK and in Germany but very well priced and realy worth to check out if you are looking for something special .
I can recomment them since I order from them since over 20 years now .

Allthough , I am looking for an Irish supplier for clay and terracotta for supltures, Pots and tiles.....also I am looking for good quality to make pieces of art , not just crafty pieces .
I bought a lump of clay at Easons one time, but that is not the right stuff I want .
Any ideas where to buy here in Ireland ?

I would recommend the following artist Alison McCann based in Northern Ireland, I have bought of her before and she has some nice new work. Worth a look at her etsy store and website.

Most of the sites here are paper and craft but if people want to go a little further and push the general craft there are a few sites I'll post that supply a little more heavy duty materials.

    http://www.centraltechsupplies.ie/index.html
These guys are based in Mulhudart, Dublin 15 and were set up for woodwork, metalwork and technical art supplies. They supply Hips plastic sheeting for vac forming, vac machines, Metal, acrylic, carbon rod, bars, tubes, plates.
tools, paper, printing tools, pottery and clay, dyes, speciality fabrics for kites, paint, adhesives, etchers, laminators etc... pretty much everything.

    http://www.rpmsupplies.com/
Their shop or warehouse is in Ballymount industrial estate. They are suppliers of materials for ceramic, sculpting, molding, wax, latex, silicone, plastic molding algenates, kilns, mold release sprays etc

    http://www.runlite.com/varaform/index.html
You have to find a retailer to buy this stuff and it is rediculous expensive but it is the prop builders choice of material. It's a thermoplastic impregnated fabric mesh that become moldable at 60 degrees c and can be re used time and again. it also binds to itself when heated.
(I'm currently trying to find an alternative to this because of it's stupid cost!... if anyone knows of thermoplastic sheeting alternative I'd be greatful)

    http://www.flints.co.uk
Based in the uk, these guys supply pretty much anything you need for stage production. Glitter in large quantities, adhesives, rigging, scenic fabric, speciality paints uv etc. Flame retardents, print spray equipment, pyrotechnics, two part foms, expanding foams, lighting and rigs etc.

    http://sugru.com/
This is an Irish girl studying at the london design institute who got together with some chemical engineers and created a new type of putty. It's called 'Sugru' and can be manipulated into any shape and sets hard or slightly songey after 24 hours. it can adhere to metal, plastic, wood.. pretty much anything. It has so many uses I don't know where to begin. It is also being developed into a customizable product by a number of companies under the name formerol http://formerol.com/index.php generally for custom handles of tools or crutches etc.

    Finally http://www.rbjplastics.com/
Also based in the uk these guys make and supply fibre glass and carbon fibre rod, bar, tubes and angles. I use this company extensively for reinforcement of large carnival costumes structures.

K&M evans rocks...they'd be even better if they went into graphics and got funky foam and plastics...

    Hi,

Anyone interested in buying cheap quality canvases should email > <<snip>> Send PM for email details.

They sell canvases around the Dublin area and are much cheaper than what you find in the shops - (which are seriously over priced). I am not sure if they deliver outside Dublin. I got canvases off them which they delivered for something like a tenner. They were really good quality and I also had the option of collecting them for free. I think if you spend over €80 they deliver for free also.

Here were the sizes and prices I saved >

    Blank Canvas :

    W 50cm(20'') x L 50 cm(20'') €12:00
    W 60cm (24”) x L 40cm("16) €14:00
    W 60cm (24”) x L 60cm (24”) €16:00
    W 80cm (31”) x L 100cm (39”) €19:00

    Canvas Panel:

    W 40cm (16") x L 40cm (16"), €7:00
    W 60cm (24") x L 60cm (24") €9:00

(Also - They are very nice... which makes it easy to say good things about them.)

I've tried several art shops in Dublin but have failed to find a simple charcoal pencil as pictured:
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b3/Charcoal_pencils_051907.jpg

I'm specifically looking for the ones on the LEFT.
The type you unroll the paper.

    Where can i get one?

    hi all,
a few really good art shops that I go to are....

K+M Evans up on meeting house lane, really good for paper, card, notebooks, craft stuff and materials. they do a student discount too!

    Beads and Bling. http://www.beadsandbling.com/store/
they are brilliant for jewellery making and hat pieces, used to be on bedford row but turned that shop into a millinery supplies shop, and now have the main one on wellington quay. they have loads of stuff and are pretty cheap aswell.

the yellow brick road on bachelors walk is also great for jewellery stuff and wire, and stones. http://www.yellowbrickroad.ie/

    http://www.woollenmills.ie/
woollen mills for fabric, much cheaper than hickeys and the staff are really helpful.

    http://www.hickeyfabrics.ie/
more expensive than the woolen mills but still great.

Ok i have to vent ....im really angry. For years ive watched create and craft tv and wanted to order...but they always charge a lot of money to post to Ireland. So the other day i turned on the tv to see Free P+P and i was delighted. I went onto the website to place my order and found that the postage to Ireland was not included! Grrrr !! But then on Monday they were singing and dancing (practicly) on screen about how delighed they were that they have reduced the postage to only £2.99. I was almost as delighted as them! lol so i went onto the website and put a cd rom in my cart. Can anybody guess how much the postage is to ireland for one cd? £9.90!!! The postage to Ireland was not reduced at all. When i rang to ask why it was so expensive nobody could give me an answer. The best they could do was simply to "advise" me to buy more stuff! Haha! The cheek of them. I know for a fact that you can post a cd from the uk for under £2.00.....where do they get off charging £9.90. Am i the only non Uk potential customer who has this issue? Does it not make your blood boil? Oh well they are missing out on hundreds of pounds worth of orders from me every year!
If you or anyone you know is in the same position as me i would be very grateful if you could contact me or have the person contact me, as i would love to start a petition to send to them! My email address is SNIP

Thanks for listening to my rant,
    Fiona Lawlor.

IMHO i really think that www.corkartsupplies.com cannot be beaten for price and variety. And there cardmaking and scrapbooking sub division is also really good and delivery is only €3.00 www.cardznscrapz.com is the card making section.

  • Registered Users Posts: 192 ✭✭boxercreations

I refuse to buy from c and c - the postage is ridiculous. The costs to Ireland comes down to simple logistics - they contract with couriers who charge a flat fee, usually for upto 20kg. So a teeny cd costs as much as a big paper order.
Sizzix is another - €22 for a delivery that is free in the UK.
So it's partly the fault of the Irish courier system, who in turn can charge what they like as An Post are a joke for anything outside Eire - I just took a shoebox weighing 2.25 kg to the post office and to send it to the UK will cost €31.50.
I'm flying over with said box later in the month for €23 return with Ryanair....
Annoyed yes but tbh a petition will make no difference - their Irish customer base is too small for them to really be influenced.
Joanna Sheen does free worldwide postage and she has a few nice bits and bobs plus a good array of new stuff arriving (and a lot of the stuff from c and c)

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 fionalaw

yeah its mad that you can fly over and back again to deliver it in person for cheaper than to post it lol
maybe im wasting my time but it just drives me mad, sometimes i really wish i lived in the UK lol

Nimble Fingers (stillorgan) - paints, canvas, kids art supplies. I remember going in here as a kid and it seemed big with loads of stuff piled high. Now I go in and it's tiny

(does Ikea do art and craft materials yet cos they would blow the rest of the shops out of the water...)

Sisslings Mouldings - Opposite Beacon Shopping Centre near Dundrum - blank canvas, accessories)
MOD: Cannot find a website, probably no longer active (14/01/21)

CorkArtSupplies.com - presume they have almost everything. They must be doing well as remember coming across a job advert from them looking for full timer web manager.
