I hate to blow my own trumpet, but.... :-)
I run an online (Irelands first) patchwork fabric supply business - http://www.justcotton.ie
Feel free to let me know what you think - about the site and the selection.
Biggest problem to date is peoples reluctance to buy on line - but word is spreading slowly!
    Regards,
    Penny

The woolen mills is great for sewing & knitting supplies. Needles, Patterns, Fabric & Wool etc. You can also buy wholesale for some items. I buy bags of buttons for baby cardigans and get them way cheaper than hickeys etc. They're at the end of Liffey St, near the Ha'Penny Bridge.

Yes that's a great shop - I got bamboo knitting needles there - look and feel nicer than plastic. Great location too.

I am an artist and have had great help from this site.As to there prices and product there is an amazing spectrum to be found here. From artist to student quality and they deliver on time. One time they didnt have what I ordered so they sent me a better brush, now how often will art shops do that.Really I have been to 90% of the shops on the replies sent in the only other that I now go to is EVANS.They are one of the best for canvas and are helpful to as far as discounts and delivery.Remind them about being an artist to get your discount.

www.johnjadams.com just incase you think I work for an art shop.lol

Again, this is self-promotion and may be edited away by the powers that be should they so desire... :)

This is Knit is our online & real-life shop (operating in the Blackrock Market at weekends).

We have an excellent range of knitting yarns, needles and modern knitting patterns. We also offer Knitting Classes on Saturday mornings for absolute beginners and for intermediate knitters. They're always great fun and a really enjoyable part of what we do...

Agree with John that www.artmaterialsco.com is excellent. I used to use www.dickblick.com (US based behemoth art supplies chain) and found them good but the shipping charges can be high, plus I think artmaterialsco is an Irish enterprise so it deserves support.

What do you think of this site?

    www.babystitchup.com

A friend of mine was doing christening blankets in spare time and they are just fabulous and we all said they should do them on a website...

    what you think??

Hi I have just been pointed in the direction of this forum and I am very impressed. I email a newsletter, NOTICEBOARD, every two weeks to all artists and crafts people in Ireland. At the moment I have over 400 people on my mail list.
This forum is something I will definately be recommending. I send it to everyone from fine artists to potters, patchworkers to jewellers and anyone in between.
If you would like to join this growing group, email me at
    [email protected]
Finding somewhere to join others in the plight to find good suppliers and great deals is always high on priority!
Keep up the good work, Karen

I thought I should just say how good www.craftsupplies.ie is.
I've gotten a load of stuff from there and it's ridiculously efficient. Orders are shipped the day after you order them and I usually get them the following morning. (I ordered something Sunday night, got it Tuesday morning)
And they take laser which makes me love them more.

for layered art course research notebooks i frequent the 2 euro shops dotted around the place. plenty of bargains to be had and you can get imaginitive with what they sell..

pritt stick, blu tac, staplers, sellotapes, cheap 2 euro notebooks
(with hideous covers ya can do jobbies on to make beautiful.) wrapping papers for collage, a4 pads of coloured sugar paper for 2 euro which i use for paper mache. random other things such as glitter. plain cups which you can paint with ceramic paints, etc. !!

No arts and crafts shops to recommend (though I'll be checking out some of those here :)) During the summer I bought paper and pens in Reads, then went next door to Easons and saw them cheaper there by quite a bit. I dunno if they were having a sale, didn't look like it, but I suppose it's worth shopping around sometimes.

Another shop I haven't seen mentioned is An Siopa Bui in Spiddal, Galway. I use it a lot for rubber stamps, inkpads etc.

    www.ansiopabui.ie

It's a bricks and mortar shop situated in the Spiddal Craft and Design Studios-a lovely location overlooking the sea :)

You can also order from their website and they run regular workshops in Spiddal, Dublin and I think Cork-check the website for more info.

Green Hobby & Model www.greenhobbymodel.com at Harolds cross in Dublin sells mainly model planes and boats and so on. But I get a lot of brass and balsa wood there for other projects.

While I was in the shop yesterday one of the shop's professional model makers came to pick up silicone mold making stuff he had ordered from them.
So I got a look at the silicone, the special PVA mould release agent, and the casting resin that goes into the molds to make the figurines.

He was making cast metal lead and resin chess sets from figurines he has carved out of soft cedar wood and soap.

I use www.anybeads.com for buying Swarovski beads, they're based in Hong Kong but have very fast shipping, about 3 days or so. I don't think I've found anywhere cheaper-has anyone else?
