Hi all,

Playing Football/Camogie With Different Clubs?

    My daughter has played Camogie for her club for a few years. We moved house a while back and she is still playing U13 Camogie with that team, and she now wants to start playing Football with the local GAA club with friends from her school.

    Does anyone know if she would be permitted to play Football with the new club while still playing Camogie with the current club?

    Camogie and Ladies Football are separate organisations so she should be fine [subject to being eligible to play with the "local" GAA club i.e there isn't another Ladies GAA club nearer]

    Would you know where I can find it in writing anywhere that this is permitted? I had a browse through LGFA rules, but couldn’t see anything

    A friend of mine told me that she would only be permitted if her current club didn’t field a Football team at U13s (but they do). However, the person that told me that was far from certain either way

    What your friend was talking about, was what would apply if it was a boy and it they wanted to play hurling and football with two different clubs as both are GAA sports.
    The rules around this are GAA rules but are irrelevant for your daughter.

    The fact that she plays camogie has no bearing on the matter whatsoever.

    The only area you might possibly run into a problem is the LGFAA's own rules on whether or not she is eligible to join the specific club she wants to.

    Camogie and Ladies football are still two separate organisations, both separate for registration/insurance purposes from the GAA.

    You won't find anything in writing - it would be like the IRFU having a rule about what basketball club a player was allowed join, or in her case the Camogie Association having rules about what soccer club she could join if she wanted to play soccer.

    I'm 99.999% sure there is no issue in relation to the rules about her being able to play football.

    Did you look at your county board website? there should be a list of contacts and somebody there should be able to help you out

    She can play with both as she wants. They are two separate organisations. They might adapt similar rules but it is like playing Tennis with one club and soccer for another. One does not govern the other and they each have their own County Board. Some County Boards might have By Laws dictating boundaries but the Camogie Club is her "Home" Club and the new Football Club would be her Local Club.

    Won't be a problem. Serveral of our girls' panel also play camogie with a different club.

    Trust you got this sorted in the end, as I see I'm late to this thread, but just to point out that her current "club" is actually two different clubs - a camogie club, and a ladies football club. As others have pointed out, they're two separate organisations, so being registered with one club for one of them doesn't stop you from being registered with another club for the other one.

    Also to point out that while both are gaelic games, neither are part of the GAA, so the GAA rules that your friend referred to wouldn't apply either.
