MRI waiting list - with private health insurance?

The public MRI waiting list is about 14 months?

Is there a way to expedite an MRI if one has private health insurance, or expect that waiting list regardless?

You don't need health insurance to go private. Depends on area required. Single area, such as back would cost 2-3 hundred euro after referral. Depends on where you go, could have an MRI in days or a week or so.

Obviously private health insurance covers the cost however.

Are there private dedicated facilities vs public?

There may be an excess to pay.

There is no waiting list for private, a referral from your GP to your chosen scan centre.
Certain insurers have direct pay arrangements in place, in case you choose a scan centre not covered by your insurer you will pay an excess charge.
I have had scans reported and returned within 24hrs of a request but usually a week for a non-urgent one.

Private health insurance only covers MRI if it's a referral from a consultant.
Also private health insurance will only cover certain MRI scans.
Ie different parts of the body.

Thats all very much dependant on the plan the insured has and isn't across the board.
Many plans cover GP referral for MRI, granted not all and even if no cover is in place an MRI can be had in some places for @€;250.

Galway Clinic or the Bons for example.

Not a cheap option, especially if funds are tight but very affordable.
