Well who was at the Jazz festival this year? I must say I didn't think the line-up was as good as it has been in previous years... there were some good names alright, but none jumped out immediately as a "must see" (like the Mingus Big Band a few years ago or Brad Mehldau last year). We spent most of the time so in the Metropole which had a great atmosphere and lots of good live acts, but I couldn't name one of them now.

I'm sure there were some great gigs on that I should have been at, but I tend to go to gigs of people I already know. I guess I'm not as up on contemporary jazz as I should be!

By the way speaking of Brad Mehldau, did anyone see his gig last year? I'm a great fan of his Art of the Trio CDs, but he really went a bit wild in his concert. It was pretty far out stuff, and by the interval alot of people had got up and walked out. I stayed until the end because I actually enjoyed it, but my girlfriend was bored to tears!
