    Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any non-dentist options for whitening your teeth? Any toothpastes or the like?

And when a dentist does it, are they bleeching your teeth or is it something else? And how expensive is it?

    Thanks!

First get you teeth cleaned really well by a hygienest or dentist to make sure your teeth are healthy and surface stain free. Because of the restrictions for safty the products you can buy over the counter are of less potency as the ones the dentist can use. The kind where you get gun shelds that hold bleaching gel next to you teeth overnight or for 2 hours a day, have been shown to work best. The fancy blue lights are nothing but an expensive gimick. Bleeching is not permanent hand has to be topped up about every 3 years. Should cost around 600 for top and bottom teeth + a cleaning.
Your teeth may not bleach well! It depends on whay they are discoloured.

What about teeth with white fillings after bleaching?
I imagine they stay the same dark colour or are they translucent ?

Correct they stay the same colour so they can become more noticable. Porcelain crowns also dont bleach and the bleach has somewhat of a bad effect on the smoothness of the porcelain. Often if you are very keen for bleaching you have to get your filling replaced before or afterwards
