Can be my wrist Cylon! Nearly the same year too I think.

I was really only kind of joking when I made the jokey Cylon reference...

Knowledgeable people, talk to me about replacement glass and where to get it.

I was handed a watch yesterday. An Armani AR-1974 chronograph. Like this stolen picture.

The glass is buggered so needs replacing. Seems like it should be a simple job to replace, I just need to source the glass.

Most likely uses a Seiko Hattori VD53 movement. Reliable $20 movement.

Replacement crystal would be very easy as this is a parts bin special made up for the branded market. Should cost you around €40.

The movement is still working fine so no worries there. Just need to disassemble over the weekend and measure up the glass.

The little lady managed to wrangle one of these off of my Casio MDV106-1AV. I want to get a replacement but how do I know what size to get? The strap is 20mm so I assume I get a 22mm?

You know you have a problem when you start recognising watches on screen. Watching All is Lost the other night when spot that Robert Redfords watch is an Seiko SKX009. Wanted a SKX 007 for a long time but I'm starting to lean to the 009 now, the Pepsi bezel and blue dial have really grown on me. It's a bit cheaper buy too. Really want the two of them though! :)

With Seiko you can get the right month as well from the serial number. But you need to know that you have the right decade.

He has been busy this week. A load of reviews up.

Most have no pictures apart from a single one from the net. Pretty funny reviewing watches he has never handled.

Bit like me reviewing a high powered Ferrari and complaining about the steering when cornering after reading a magazine about it.

Any silent winders recommended? I'd like to wind two autos on my dresser at night, but my wife is a light sleeper, and she reckons they'll keep her awake.

For reference, she hates phone chargers in the bedroom as the noise of them keeps her awake. I didn't even know they emitted any noise till she pointed out out

Apparently there's mixed views on winders.. some say they do more harm than good... I've seen some reviews of wolf brand.. they seem more sophisticated in what they they

Had winders too. Waste of time. And what's the betting if you buy one that claims silence that your wife will still hear it! She will. Just get good at setting the time on your watches mate, and I'd rather buy another watch than buying a winder.

I have silent winders in the room and they don’t make any noise, the last one was a gift and has bright blue lights, frightened the sh*t out of me the first night, I’ve been using wonders for years and only put the watches that are in rotation on them, anything that’s not being worn goes into the safe.

The urban gentry YouTuber is now starting a tv series and he’s teamed up with a company called watchbox, not sure how a tv series will do for ratings.
I don’t like the fella myself but I am interested to see if this takes off

Yeah I seen him recommend the wolf winders.. I don't mind him.. watched his first video with watch box.. looks like they have essentially a trading floor where they sell watches.. he took a selection from their vault and some impressive stuff there

New omega offerings including a 50 year anniversary model (one of many to come I suspect).

I am a big omega fan but all very “meh” and expensive IMHO.

AT worldtimer the only one that gives me a tingle.

Hah - I completely agree and I am/was such a big fan of Omega.

Where they also lost me was the inability to fit the 8500 movement - which I accept was a great step forward for them - in a 42mm case (the Planet Ocean) and 38.5mm case (in case of the Aquaterra) without the watches being just too thick.

The 42mm Planet Oceans with the 8500 are 15.7mm thick and the 38.5mm Aquaterras are 13 mm thick versus 14.25mm and 11.25mm respectively for the older 2500s.

I know it doesn't sound like much but there is a massive difference on the wrist especially when worn on the bracelet. The bigger versions are better proportioned and sit better but are really big watches, especially the XL Planet Ocean. I have a 2500 Aquaterra (38.5mm) and Planet Ocean (42mm) and love them both. I do prefer smaller watches but I don't have a small wrist.

And I'm also somebody who loves the Seiko MM300 SBDX001, which is 44mm diameter and 15mm thick, and gets knocked for being too thick all the time. It certainly is thick but I find the case design of the Seiko sits it down on your wrist a lot better. If you can imagine the 42mm 8500 Planet Ocean, it's a couple of mm smaller but almost 1 mm thicker.

I have 6 automatics mostly Seiko divers. The dressy ones are the Rolex explorer 214270 mkll and the Seiko SARB 35

So what I was thinking was. 3 swiss watches and 3 Japanese.

The 3 Japanese would be Seiko Sumo in black, Seiko Sarb 35 and Turtle Padi or Samurai Padi havent decided yet. So that is two divers and a sport/dressy casual piece.

The 3 swiss will be built around my Explorers. So I was thinking Rolex Explorer 214270 39mm , Omega seamaster 300m Professional (last model with out the waves on the dial in Blue and a Tudor Black Bay 36mm. (If a 36mm E2xplorer 114270 happens to appear in the mean time)

Having about 12 or 13 watches, so I have alot of them are going back into their original boxes and put away for a few years.

So I'll have my box of 3 Swiss 3 Japanesse.
As well as a few quartz maybe 3 or 4.

Question is where will I be able Tudor Black Bay 36mm for under 2k with Box and papers.

As well as a Omega seamaster 300m professional blue bezel for under 2k?

    Ideas anyone ?

Just to add on, rather then selling my watches to narrow down the cokkrvyuu;;9]0 I'm going to return then to their original boxes and store them away for the next 20 to 30 years and see will the be worth any thing. Now I know they are Seiko but it will be interesting to see what new old stock Japanese watches will fetch.

    Hi folks
I'm in the US this summer working around the new Hampshire area. Always looking at watches and I'm getting my skyfall aqua Terra next week. Had a look in a local jared today and they had a black role sub 38?mm I asked re price and they said 6500 dollars.. they also have a jewellers called barmarkian and I had a look around. High end place. Omega, tag, logines, breitling.. didn't see rolex.. tried on an aqua Terra and felt class.. roll on next week. 6k tried on a speed master special edition with moon phase and was 10k.. figured I'd leave it at that.. I'd love to come across something like a rolex explorer 1 at a good price but can't see it.. I'll have to make do with the omega for now..
    Cheers,
    Mick
