I have to admit seeing la flare, elkins and cummins on the same card makes me want to look elsewhere but there's plenty of quality here besides.

Weidman going for his third consecutive loss in as many fights in his native state, close contest but I think kelvin wins the stand up battle.

I think almeida rivera has the look of an absolute cracker of a fight, don't think almeida will ever be in a boring fight, will probably
go head hunting as per usual.

Brian kelleher shocked some when easily subbing a guy who specialises in subs in alcantara in the first round and in brazil, that was some performance for his ufc debut.

Weidman on of the more notable victims to USADA? Can't see what he does after this loss. I see him being stopped again.

Yeah, it's almost a bit like Travis Browne syndrome. No matter what advantages he has over the guy he's fighting he will just find a way to lose.

Hope I'm wrong as I do like him.

How has the USADA thing affected Weidman, is it drug testing or the weight cutting rules?

The lack of IV's. I don't think he was ever a cheater but he cuts an absolute shed load of weight and hasn't looked the same since the IV ban.

He looked like death (as usual) at weigh-ins today and did the ol' McGregor routine with the sunglasses to try hide his sunken eyes but they asked him to take them off for the photo :pac:

He's really a 205'er and shouldn't be fighting at middleweight.

100%. I don't know what it is about him but he is one of the few I know of who can make that style of his look exciting.

Always brings it. He is the definition of tough.

I never saw Weidman fight before the Rockhold fight and from memory I thought he was doing well enough in that fight but threw a silly kick which Rockhold pounced on and finished him from there. Similarly in the Romero fight I thought he was doing well but caught by a freak knee which did him in. Again in the Mousasi fight he got caught playing silly buggers with a knee to the head.

I dunno if the USADA testing has affected him but he has had a strange turn of luck in the octagon in his 3 losses.

There's a case to be made he was winning all of those fights at the time he lost the fight - He definitely took the 1st round against Rockhold, ditto Romero, ditto Mousasi.

The only reason I suggested the lack of IV's being a factor is that he keeps getting "caught" (i.e. finished), after making strong starts. Twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern. If your body and mind is depleted from bad weight cuts, you'd expect to see a fighter suffer in those rounds.

UFC 192 was the first event with the IV Ban and Weidman's first fight after the ban was UFC 194 on the co-main of Conor-Aldo.

Could be just a giant coincidence obviously but Weidman did tell the story of the time he cut from 218lbs to in less than 2 weeks to fight Demian Maia and that was with the use of IV's. He said it was the scariest thing he has ever done.

Put money on kelvin to KO Weidman, but watching the road to the octagon now I feel a bit guilty. He comes across as pure sound. Sorry Chris.

Half-watching some Darren Elkins fights here. The guy seems to thrive on getting whacked in the face.

I wonder why the UFC played down Mousasis win against Weidman :D

He should get points deducted for the constant going to the ground and wasting time

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,473 ✭✭✭tinpib

Lots of gamesmanship from Godofredo alright.

They are fairly swinging at each other though.

Nah, he's not winning any points because of it, his opponent can attack him there if he wishes but we know why he won't he might if it was a different opponent he would potentially, the ref is there to stand him up.
