Do you have auto lights? or have you set them to manual and they remain on when you leave but turn off when you lock the car?

They turn off when I turn the car off, and the 'underneath ' lights when I take the keys out

Yeah but it depends how you turn them on. If they are in the on position, they will turn off automarically to save battery after a period of time but it will ping when you open the drivers door. If they are in auto mode, that wont happen.

Other popular one would be if it's a keyless car and it's just shut down in stop/start mode and you havn't turned it off by the button on the dash.
