JC I've asked all around and the mix off the spiral my-space site is one of "the lost few" everyone knows of it's existance and nobody has it. I hooked my mini disc player up today to record it and 3 times I had good levels and sound coming through it and 3 times nothing came out on the recording. I'll keep trying but I think something spiral is happening to stop it recording. Anyway just to make up for that here's a Live PA from 69db aka Sebastian from Spiral Tribe from truely the maddest party I was ever at 9 days (and nights) of spiral lunacy and mind games in Vienna. MENTAL! This was recorded on the second night. Hope ya like it!!

Howdy Kaos, I take from your post that you rekon the Tribe embed a 'certain' digital frequency in their recordings to prevent 'Illegal' copy distribution ??? - Not tooo sure you mean that actually, but I'll give my 2upence worth here anyway;) . - It's the holy-grail for a company to come up with a way to prevent 'soft-piracey' (thats easily recording stuff for your mates) - It's an elusive spot in the whole Digital-Recording thing... If the tribe have managed to achieve that, (and on Mini-Disc -which is only 32khz recording thats less than a CD, quality wise) they have managed a feat that is erm.... 'technically impossible' - - I would suggest you try a standard 'Digital-Dump' direct from your MD, If it's a portable player / recorder use the YELLOW output, if it's a rack-mount / plantine, use the optical out (that red laser-light output in the back) - This way your not really recording the audio from the MD, your simply taking a complete mirror image of the data from the disc itself.

PS- a simple thing to remember is - 'If you can hear it, you can record it' -(Dont mind the intrusive pop-ups from your O/S, they are there to put you off recording and transfaring audio easily) - Fook'em - It's all just zero's and one's at the end of the day. ;)

    Pillow time .... Nite y'all.

PPS -ive just re-read your post, do you actually have the recording on a mini-disc OR are you trying to record to the mini-disc from an internet stream ???? - Gimme a shout Kboy or post me the link and I'll have a peek...

Alright Stomp, fairplay 2u, the Pub in rush was The Harbour Bar, we played support to the 'Cherry Brogues' - they were a kinda 'housemartins' lookalike / soundalike band. Your right, no camcorder only a still cam, I have a couple of photos, I'll dig them out. Nice1. ;)

Gen I think my problem is far simpler than most of your suggestions. I was trying to record a mix off a site that I could not download only stream. I set up the MD player and had good solid level coming off my pc and when I recorded I still had good levels but when I stopped recording the track existed on the disc to the exact length of the recording but no audio. I reckon the technical term for whats wrong is that my MD player is f****ed. The next step is to bin the thing and buy a reliable digital recording device maybe a portable DAT or something who knows. Again thanks for the technical stuff.

Oh yeah nice one Eoin for Holographic Dreams, I sold that years ago to an ex Boy band member for a lot of cash. He insisted though I sell to him at the time as it was going for big £sss at the time in that kip 'Music Power' under the arch :D. I won't mention his name but he knows who he is :)

Ok very old bleepy house tune ID needed.

Obviously I don't know the name of it but it had samples taken from the 1983 David Cronenberg movie 'The Dead Zone'. The film starred 'Martin Sheen' as a deranged Presidential hopeful 'Greg Stillson' in the US. It also Starred ‘Christopher Walkin’ as ‘Johnny Smith’ who was a psychic who when he touched you could see your future. There is a scene in the movie where he shakes Martin Sheen's hand and see's him as the future President and pressing the big RED button (remember this was an eighties movie) to launch the missiles.

Anyway the track has this whole scene sampled. Here's the scene:

Greg Stillson: "Put your hand on the scanning screen, and you'll go down in history with me!
Five Star General: As what? The world's greatest mass murderers?
Greg Stillson: You cowardly bastard! You're not the voice of the people, I am the voice of the people! The people speak through me, not you! Now put your god damn hand on that scanning screen, or I'll hack it off and put it on for you!"

Other samples include ‘We’re immortal we are’ and ‘My destiny’ also Martin Sheen’s voice in The Dead Zone.

God be with the days when sampling was an art :D

Any takers? It's around 1990 and Warren K is the only one I know who had it at the time. I already asked him about and needless to say he thinks I'm off my head because he can't even remember last week :) Anyway if you music nerds out there think you can ID the track in question I will do your washing and your ironing for 2 weeks and probably throw in a meal or 2 as well :)

    Good luck…

    NR:Gex - Track Demo (Back in Mick W's House - 1992) Warren K - CAF -Mick Walsh - (Evil E & Mick M for esprit de corps  )
This is how we got a set together for the ASYLUM Sessions. (Not a sequencer insight,... 100% Finger Work on the Sampler)
    http://homepage.eircom.net/~rebuzzdefuzz/video/nrgex_mickshouse_demo_01.html

Yo! KAOS - I wont go off on another1 ;) but the Super Encoder that we spoke about before will save Internet Streams also, just right click on the interface and click 'Add Streaming Media Links' and paste the stream address into the pop-up. - (It fails sometimes, but it is handy... )

Yo! ACEBERG - Disable ActiveX when you upload to Mediafire, you'll find you wont get failures. Dont forget to switch it back on when you've completed the upload.

Yo! JAYc - I know that scene in the movie very well, but I'm phooked to recall the tune you mean, I'll dig around. PS - Warren needs a de-frag ;) and the deck is yours for 25bucks, he's not into the VHS, sorry buddy. (I'll take it if you want, better still, I'll buy the deck and we'll do a swap.. ok? )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34 Kaos23

Aceberg you are a top man cheers.
Gen I must be a moron cos I cant find a streaming url for the mix in question. No need to get all technical on me but I think when Warren K is de-fraged I need to be treated the same and have a serious firmware upgrade. I possibly need to have an OS upgrade too from "windows moron"to something more modern like "windows things could be worse considering the years of abuse". Anyway I'll tyr that software that Stomp mentioned and see how I go maybe I'll get lucky.

Shiftin' a PITCH is one thing, shiftin' a BPM is an altogether different kettle? - what exactly is it you need to do? - (Best gimme a shout in the EMP room back in the other shop ;) )

How do you change the "BPM" of a record ? adjust the Pitch slider. The pitch and BPM of a track are linked, Soundforge lets you change the pitch without changing the tempo (Pitch-Shifting) although anything extreme will sound odd

Yo! MickyDub - 1#Speed - 2#Tempo(BPM) - 3#Pitch. These are 3 entirly different things and it is VERY easy to muddle them up. Using a slider on a turntable will simply 'speed' up a tune (or slow it sown), and yes it does change the BPM, however it WILL change the 'KEY' of the notes on the track. Thats fine >>sometimes<< but it will change the whole 'dynamic' of a track. The average ear will know when a tune is playing toooo fast, it's got that chirpy-chipmonk ring to it. - (I best stop right now incase Kaos drops by... lol - Only Kiddin' Kboy ;) )

Anyway, to better understand these 3 functions, download this lil' bit of kit and have a play about with it. It's a small DJ prog. Install it and load up a tune you like or know well. To hear the full potential of this software, load a tune that has a decent vocal in it (but any tune will do). Using a vocal track will give you a better idea about the whole Pitch - Tempo & Speed concepts. (It's TIMESTRETCHING at its best) MIX VIBES PRO 5 (3.6 MB) - http://www.mediafire.com/?5yw5hyrigdz

    How To / Quick-Launch =
Click the top LEFT 'EJECT' like-button to load a tune, press play, then monkey about with the SPEED slider. Click on the 'SPEED' button (BESIDE THE BIG JOG-WHEEL) to get your 'TEMPO' and 'PITCH' functions. (It's a 3in1 button). If your feeling brave click the '2 CH' BOX on the top Navbar and select 16 from the drop-down menu. It has a massive array of functions to keep you busy.

YO! JAYc - I just watched the movie again. I forgot how good it was,... 'This House is Now Clean' - Excellent. True Classic.
