New Bill Pay Phone Gift - Old Number

    Probably a daft question but cant seem to find a definitive answer online.

    If I were to buy a new bill pay phone/plan for someone as a gift, would they be able to transfer over old number easily from different provider?

    For example, currently on Three Bill Pay, outnof contract, so lets say got a gift of Vodafone Bill phone with new number, can the current number be transferred over and Three account cancelled at that stage once the phone has been given as a gift?

    I know that you can select the option to move number when buying a new bill pay phone but want to be able to buy new phone as a gift without having to let them know that their number is changing network until they have the actual phone.

    If I'm reading what you're saying right no for a few reasons.
    1. You can't sign someone else upto a contract so it would be you signing up to a contract with your bank account, signature and I.D.
    2. You can't transfer a number to an active contract that way, once the numbers assigned its assigned, you can't get one then over write it with an existing 3 number.
    3. You'd essentially have two bill plans, one being the original now ported 3 number and the redundant one you purchased.

    If you want to gift them the phone you'll either have to enter the contract yourself, buy the phone outright or have them port and you pay for the phone.

    Why not just buy a sim free phone for them, what if they don't want to swap network or the new network coverage is crap?

    That's a fair point, didn't really think of it that way. Was just looking at up front phone costs for bill pay plans with the same or similar prices
