While I share your mistrust of all things organised, it would be a shame to miss out on fellowship because of previous negative experiences. Yes, bad things can sometimes happen in a church, but I would like to think that these moments of hypocrisy are far outweighed by the good.

Absolutely agree. Its just a matter of finding something suitable. The experiences that I've had though, make me look deeper than the welcoming smile. I'm a liitle more cynical. Not openly so, but I take little at face value where religious gatherings are concerned.
The wise old Simpsons come to mind.

Rodd and Todd talking to Ned, after Marge babysits: 'Spending time with Mrs Simpson makes us happy, and not church happy, real happy.':D That sums it up quite accutely.

We are peas in a pod, Jimi! I don't see a little scepticism being unhealthy. There is a limit, however.

Thats it. A balance must be struck. Have you found anywhere yourself that you are comfortable with?

Yes, I have! But I also think that I've purposely not become too attached. Sure I'll PM you the details!

I go to Abundant Life Christian Church in Limerick also (hi O'B!!) - its in the city centre, very welcoming and open to all denominations, although it is essentially pentecostal. Upper Room in Bray, Wicklow is another good pentecotal church.

Does anyone know of a pentecostal church in cavan? I know there is one but dont remember the name...

I know the pastor - a very able brother. I preached for them a long time ago (don't hold that against them!) and it's been years from I got to their services - but a friend of mine in Lurgan was there a few Sundays ago and was very appreciative of both the ministry and the fellowship.

The church is called Riversmeeting. It is located near Kiltoghert Creamery, about 10 minutes drive from Carrick. It is a fast growing congregation and tries to cater for as much of the community as possible.

The website is up and running and the Church begins meeting every Sunday (having met fortnightly in September & October) from 14th November at 10.30 in the Community Centre in Donabate. Everyone welcome, whether you've been a Christian for years or are just wanting to have a look.
