    Yes that was amazing!! I didn't have much interest in the weather at the time so didn't know it was even meant to snow. Remember watching some new years eve show and walking out to the kitchen to get champagne and thinking it looked very dark in there, look up and see the skylights covered in snow! Couldn't believe it, not often in Ireland you'll be surprised by a perfect blanket of snow outside your door

    The amount of cloud in Cork is miserable. There has been no sun at all, of any description, for days.

    Admittedly this was during the maunder min, but .:::

    ../The winter of 1697-98 was severe in England.
    On 25 November, the ice was 3 inches think in London.
    But in December it was so warm that people could not bear their bedclothes.
    Then there was a snowfall 12 inches deep.
    In January, there were great snowfalls and deep drifts.
    Towards the end of January, the ice on the water was 8 inches thick.

    Personally, I am ok with mild for Xmas, people can travel and get to/from home.
    Though watching MTs forecast it maybe a mild winter, though I do love snow when we get it :-)

    Models not showing quite the blowtorch pattern of late this morning - We might manage something closer to the seasonal norm soon enough (7 days +) and maybe something more interesting in the extended outlook (10 days +) ... Hopefully not just a blip

    I was on Dun Laoghaire Pier at 9.30pm last night.

    The temperature was still 12.5c. Rather unusual for almost mid-winter. The breeze was mild.

    Remarkably, Chicago smashed a 26th December record with +16c. Normally it would be around -10c.

    Not if it means temperatures struggle to get into double figures in March/April/May as was the case in many areas of the country in the year just coming to an end.

    Same thing happened this time last year. If I remember correctly there was little or no sunshine in Cork from around the 22nd December 2018 till around the 10th January 2019.

    Yes in October, not mid winter. Sure what’s the point of actual seasons if it’s 14oC all year around? You can’t enjoy the warmth if you haven’t experienced the cold........

    Yup. These lovely southerly airflows are good for temperature but drag in mountains of thick cloud.

    early to mid June was definitely colder than this mild spell. I remember some very wet days where the temperature struggled to get past 9C. Most of June struggled to get above 14C until the final week. I do not wish for a similar June again next summer.

    Really great day here in Tralee. Got up to 15.6C with good levels of winter sunshine in a steady brisk SSW'ly breeze and had some elongated Lenticulars parked in the lee of the mountains near me for the day. The land is drying out nicely, got a few overdue jobs lined up over the next few days so will be availing of the benign conditions.

    Still very mild at 13.6C.

    Another lovely family day spent outdoors.

    Weather wise great Christmas. Mild, very little rain + surprisingly very little wind.
