Hard Drive Audio Player - Question

    Hi Folks,

I'd love to put a hard drive audio player into my Hi-Fi setup but they are realistically too expensive.... I think. I can't seem to find what they are actually called and if they are still available. Has everything moved to streaming?

On another note I was wondering this, could a DVD-Recorder with a hard drive be used to rip music to its HDD? Or is that too obvious and the manufacturers wouldn't have allowed this feature.

A few of those exist, naim make one. They're kind of specialist now because both of the high resolution streaming services in one respect and ripping CDs using exactaudiocopy (for example) and a NAS.

I gave up after about 60odd of my CDs in a flac library. Now I play them old school on a CD player, if I don't want to listen to tidal.

An old hd based iPod is another solution.

Hi, a couple of years ago i bought a RAUMFELD CONNECTOR for about 140 euros which i linked to an arcam amp - I found it very good - I had ripped about 480 GB of CDs to FLAC with DP Poweramp on my home PC - I then transferred them to a WD Hard Drive and attached that to the Raumfied Connector - I just had to down load the app on my phone and was able to play them on the Arcam Amp - The quality was very good and it also had the internet radio and spotify built in

The most important things i learned was that it is a very slow process to ensure each rip and album art and track nos etc are done accurately thats why i purchased DP Poweramp for about 50 euros as it has very checks built in - If you have a lot of music to be ripped it does take time and you cant rush it - its all down to the indexing etc if you get that right you can flick through tracks and albums incredibly quickly

Its vital to keep backups , i learned the hard way , had ripped about 200 GB and ran into a problem , i had not a back up and had to start again

The Raumfied Connector is no longer sold , they have brought out a replacement but its more expensive , you might able to pick up a second hand one on ebay

There are options out there that will will rip and play to your Hifi but some are very expensive - I spent ages looking at them but could not find anything i was really satisfied with (Would they rip the music properly / reliability etc )- So i decided to rip all my music to a loss less format on my home pc where i can order it in the way i want it

I got a Cambridge CXN which also takes a USB hard drive and to be honest i find it hard to hear any difference between the Raumfield and the Cambridge which was 4/5 times the price

    Hope this helps
