A good course to do before the online assessments is with Career Services, they do an intensive training to help you get ready for the assessments, it helped my son a lot anyway.

Update for 2020 people , my son got his call back for his medical, its Wednesday coming, so fingers crossed things are starting to move forward

IM ACTUALLY BOOKED IN FOR TOMORROWS COURSE!!!!
All the best for your son!

Does anyone have any idea of the salary you could expect as a qualified network technician in the ESB after the apprenticeship?

I'm just logged in here again as my son applied last year his 2nd time to apply got to interview stage then 2 weeks before interview was told due to covid 19 he wouldn't be interviewed as they weren't taken on as many apprentices because of covid. He was devastated. Just reading through the messages are the 2020 apprentices still waiting to start. Sounds like ye are waiting on your medicals. How can it be this slow. In the meantime my son started an apprenticeship elsewhere last September as a year to wait to apply again to esb is too long. Best of luck to all waiting to hear back hope it all works out for you all.

How long have you all been waiting to start your apprenticeship since you applied for the job? Would it not be better to start a apprenticeship instead of waiting for ESB to get back to you .

My son applied for apprenticeship with other companies along with his friend to the likes of Suir Mercury Kirby heard back from all of them and got start dates about a month after interview. Both working now and near 6 months done. Delays thou on the phases due to that bloody covid.

    1st year salary is 10k
    2nd year is 15k
Once qualified its 40k if they keep you on I have heard they let alot go once you complete 4 years. Better off doing a electrician apprenticeship.

I second that course - my daughter found it really good and you have access to the information for a year (I think) afterwards)

    Hi Irishpaddyman,

Did they give you any guesses as to when they might start?
I'm hoping not for a while yet as everything is still so changeable.

My start date is the 10 of May

My daughter was told it might be the summer. That would suit her fine.

10th May - down to Portlaoise?

I don’t know if that’s for every branch but I’m sure they’ll be in touch anyways

Congrats the those getting their placements. Just finished the aptitude tests for this recruitment campaign myself and found them rather difficult. They drastically changed the spatial awareness module from the career services portal so my practice was gone out the window it didn't go well. Maths I froze abit got through a good few of them but they never got particularly difficult so since I assume they are adaptive I wasn't getting many right? Mechanical and Verbal reasoning went quite well. Deductive reasoning I was struggling when the went to 5 panels. The time flies under pressure. Fingers crossed but I would assume once again not to have progressed :/ Then again it's notoriously hard to get in, give it a lash and see what happens no regrets.

Oh you are right to give it a ho. I think they are designed to not be able to finish them!
Dont know what my daughter got but some areas more manageable than others.

19 or 20 I think. It was more difficult than the 2020 one.

Maybe I'd be better off doing an apprenticeship in private company anyway, ESB yes fantastic company to work for but if you don't get kept on after the 4 years you've very specialised experience that only they require as the national supplier. Least that's the way it seems for me. Although I'm 25 now so getting to 29 and not being kept on wouldn't be so bad if I was 22-23

    Oh i probably did awful.

For this stage do they only take into consideration the aptitude test or do they also look at the application and c.v?

Aptitude test first to warrant them to even consider your application

Agree spatial awareness was very different to previous years. Numerical was handy enough but sure with these tests you can never tell its just fingers on the keys and eyes on the screen.
Best of luck everyone probably hear back by end of April based on previous years.

That's great for you! I wonder are they going to try start the country branches as the covid numbers are generally lower. Still quite high in Dublin.

When did you do your medical do you mind me asking?still waiting to hear back about the new dates , was technically meant to start last week :p so just guessing It looks like itl be the 12th/26th April , 10th/24th may and so on every 2nd week depending on class and overall group size most of us will have started mid June hopefully?

@kaydog - you come out with the same qualifications after ESB just with some specialised generation and HV/MV experience I think, the education bit is the same as far as I'm aware. As for not being kept on that's an opportunity I think. I'm 29 starting this but spent last few years as a contractor in events etc and I think with a few years experience and the qualifications you can do whatever you want and not feel tied to a company, you won't have to look to far for work as a sparks
