    Hi,

    was wondering if any anyone could tell me the difference between


    'An é sin an cárta dubh?' - 'S é.

    and

    'An é an cárta dubh é sin?' - 'S é.




    And also between the following



    'An é sin an cárta dubh?' - Ní hé, sin é é.

    and

    'An é an cárta dubh é sin?' - Ní hé, ach an cárta bán.

    I believe the difference relates to definitive and undefinitive article. For example

    Is feirmeoir í = She is a farmer

    Is í an feirmeoir í = She is the farmer.

    For emphasis tere is also:

    Feirmeoir is ea í = She is a farmer

    But I'm only learning myself so I'm sure someone will be able to confirm or correct this.

    I think the issue is that the demonstratives go much better next to the copula in Irish: an é sin an cárta dubh? is right.
