    I really like the ST, as others have said very refreshing to see, would rather see something like this on Irish roads rather than the basic spec cars you see everywhere

    Ford really slipped up on the mondeo front though, the car isn't being released in Europe until the end of 2014 while it has been on us roads for 2 years now, a lot of lost sales I think, hopefully the st will sell a lil here to make up for it, I really like the design of the st and mondeo

    I'd be very interested in this type of car with the exception of either petrol/diesel or lower engine power than 1.6 but higher than 1.0 they seem more affordable than the new yaris and just as economical! Fine for town/city and country driving but for longer journeys and motorways a fiesta might be bit better depending on yaris model like a luna. Ford cars are very popular and seem to be as good as the toyotas. They run well and reliable.

    If I ever get a new car i'd have my eye on the new ford fiesta models really starting to like them and have seen a few of the newer models around and the older versions of the fiesta/focus.

    Might be tempted. Even the dreaded road tax is a relatively inexpensive group B1 (138g) so €280 p.a. Should be a fun car to drive.
    26k and people are concerned with road tax? Id be more concerned with depreciation and loan interest, which puts tax in the halfpenny place!

    Road tax is so important that an awful lot of people will spend thousands to save hundreds.

    Just done a bit more research on this. Seems those figures and prices are out of date.

    Fiesta ST has overboost for 30 seconds which allows almost 200bhp. Should be plenty for overtaking.

    Price wise it's considerably cheaper than the recently updated Clio and Pug in the UK, so should be here too presumably.

    I'm seriously tempted.

    Time moves on and I'm about to order a new car for 2015.

    The Fiesta has been facelifted recently and as of today Ford have confirmed the ST1 now has manual a/c as standard. My current Focus has dual zone cc and the difference for me at least is pretty negligable.

    So a 151 red Fiesta ST1?............:D

    Drove one a few months ago as part of the scouting to replace my car. On a smooth road the car was great fun, fantastic grip. The problem was that as soon as I hit a bump. The car was too hard I felt. It was so hard that it would bounce as soon as it hit a bump or pothole. For a blast down a backroad "full on" it was stunning, for day-to-day normal driving it was too hard and too uncomfortable.

    Drive one before you put down a deposit. I haven't driven the new Zetec-S but I imagine that day-to-day it would be easier to live with compared to the ST.

    (It's all a moot point with me as I bought a 184HP Leon FR afterwards. I felt that it was more composed down a bumpy backroad while still having plenty of grip and grunt. Oh some of the Ford Dealers should learn to return phone calls and follow through on promised test drives!)

    I had a Leon FR as my rental car for 2 weeks in Germany just last week. Stunning car. The power ! Took it out to 180 on the autobahn on a trip to Stuttgart. I thought it was a bit twitchy. I had to constantly correct the steering in a straight line. The one I had was fully loaded with satnav and mode of sport etc. nice interior mood lighting depending on mode. Fantastic power out of third gear. I would love one.

    It wasn't in a dealership anyway. It was a friend of a friend that had one and I got a short spin (couple of km) on both smooth and bumpy roads. I'm still waiting on three Ford dealers to come back to me with test drives in both ST and Zetec-S, months later.

    Sports mode can make the steering twitchy at that kinda speeds. Knocking the car back to normal mode makes the steering less twitchy and more suitable for a motorway blast/cruise while still leaving a useful bit of grunt. Eco mode kills the power though.

    I actuallly know quite a few lads who do this or else have their mind made up prior to test drive and test nothing else. Ex ford workers and family of.

    I've driven a 142 Fiesta Titanium 1.0 and also owned a 09 Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S, so I've a decent idea of their characteristics. The only concern I'd have is just how firm the new ST's suspension is. Having said that I owned an 06 Focus ST 2.5 and that was pretty good ride wise.

    The guys at CAR magazine have one on long-term test. They nearly always love fast Fords, the current Focus is the only one I've seen them dislike, and they love the Fiesta ST.

    I'd expect a firm low speed ride from an ST, as it's set up to handle well and ride acceptably at higher speeds.

    I've used those Recaro seats in the 06 Focus ST previously, and they were great. They planted you where you needed to be, and then held you there.

    I think the article is a tad tongue in cheek, and written by a older gent. In all the other reviews I've read the ride is described as firm but bearable, and the handling brilliant.

    Well, HF if it is any harder than the Focus Zetec it's going to be horrid. I drove a Focus Zetec on 17" and on a typical bumpy backroad it was terrible. I couldn't go above 60kph without banging my head off the ceiling and the car was moving around the road as the bumps were throwing the car. The needed constant correction to maintain any speed above that. I drove the same road in the mk2 Escort at 50mph and that car was more comfortable and more composed. The Leon on 18" was infinitely more controlled and comfortable down the same road at 95kph.

    I've found that current Fords are excellent on smooth roads but have trouble coping with undulating and broken/uneven surfaces at "normal" or even slightly spirited speeds. "Full Attack" they cope reasonably well but you can't drive that way all the time if you want to keep your licence.

    When I drove the Focus I really wanted to like it but the lack of composure was the main reason I didn't go for one. Also, a stupid dashboard that robbed half the space up front was the final nail in the coffin

    I have a 2014 Focus Titanium (same seats and suspension setup as a Zetec) on 17" wheels and it's fine.

    p.s. I also have a MkII Escort RS2000 on 13" wheels (choice of steels or alloys) :D

    Well, in my opinion it is far from fine. Smooth road, stunning. broken undulating back road far from fine. Then again, if everybody had the same opinion the world would be a dull place.

    P.S. Maybe I was slightly flattered in the Escort on the same road. It's a Ghia with new standard suspension
