I spoke with them and arranged to pay back 880 euro in a one off payment - this was the amount they had given to me in cash back in March.

The remaining 1.4k I owe them (given to me in relief due to help to buy scheme) is going to be deducted monthly from my salary across the next 18 months.

Thanks Ladjacket! I will give them a call today to see what the options are.

Was there a bit of a kicking for the genius who came up with the scheme and wrote the original letter?

i no longer work there but it's a weird one, a person i know who still works there told me that no one within that company got a letter from Revenue to say they were being looked into.

Just heard that a lot of people in my old company got hit with letters yesterday saying they claimed incorrectly and owe it back.

Yeah, people should be keep an eye on their reliefs/credits. A couple of years ago, I realised I was claiming for something I was no longer entitled to. I just deleted the credit from my online account. I doubt they'll do anything as it was a very small amount, €25 a year I think for uniform costs or something like that.

Also, you might find you are not claiming for credits you are entitled to.

Like I said, eventually the pattern of claims becomes apparent and then it's just a matter of allocating a resource to deal with it.
