    Hi guys,

Anyone going to Essen for this year's boardgame event?
I booked this trip (flights, accom) in Oct last year as a present for my husband. He's always wanted to go. He doesnt know yet that we're going.
However, I've since learned that by the time it rolls around, I'll be 7.5 months pregnant. I don't think i'll be able to do much walking around a large arena like that for days on end. So I'm wondering if I should change our accomodation to Dusseldorf? It means that he can bus it into Essen on the days that I don't go with him and I'll be free to do stuff in Dusseldorf with more options on things to do or places to eat etc. Essen seems like it might be quite a bit smaller.
Does anyone know what the travel is like between the two cities?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have been but not going this year.

Yes, there is a LOT of walking and not something I would recommend for someone whom is pregnant. It can get very crowded and there are few options for rest.

Dusseldorf to Essen is about 30-40mins in a taxi but not sure what it would be like on a Thursday of Friday mornings during rush hour. We stayed in Essen so not sure what transport options there are between the 2 cities other than taxi. Taxi was expensive but there were 5/6 of us per taxi so it wasn't too bad in the end. There is a train service from Dusseldorf to Essen which is cheaper but it will leave you 2/3km from the Messe. He could probably get a taxi to the Messe from the train station. I understand there is also an underground system that might work as well.
    Try https://www.spiel-messe.com/en/visitors/arrival-hotels/

Essen is not a city that you would want to visit for a holiday, nothing dangerous but it has little in the way of tourism, shopping or sights to see....unless you like looking at industrial estates and apartment blocks.
Barely saw Dusseldorf so can't say much about that.

Thanks Doc - I really appreciate your input. I'm wondering if I should instead give my ticket to one of my husbands pals :/
