Does anyone else notice the huge streamer heading towards Dublin?

I know not all radar's are accurate, but it seems to pop up on both Met Eireann and this site.

Breaking up far too rapidly, like the one just before it.

Coming into Knock this morning was brilliant seeing the landscape covered in white and grey! It was worth the flight circling the airport for an hour before landing-- maybe the pilot was told a passenger was busy taking photos so decided to to give me extra time to enjoy it!:D

I personally think snowfall for the east and northeast is being underestimated but time will tell. Nowcast it might be but snow accumulations at low levels as far as the northeast should happen. Let’s see how it plays out. There’s going to be a lot of snow lovers happy over the next 48 hrs. I’d expect an orange weather warning to appear for some. Is there an open thread for the coming snowfest?

On what do you base the expectation on? It would appear that rain is the order of the day as this front is moving in. I would love to see snow but I think the potential is rather limited

Snowing away in Westport here. Not really sticking though

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Snowing moderately in a strong breeze for the last 50 minutes. About an inch on the ground so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 246 ✭✭littlema

Fine, sticking snow here, covering the parking space where van was last night to a depth of 2cm. 0.2*c and a good S E breeze to boot!
    S Sligo 150m asl.

I'm afraid he has been doing that the whole winter, everything should be taken with a pinch of salt

Yep agreed, he's brilliant and his posts are phenomenal and I really appreciate all the work he puts in here but that last paragraph sounded like a click-bait sentence trying to keep people interested in the most boring-est winter ever.

I really can't see a late resurgence of Winter at this stage, there's been no hint for it. Even this week was a wash out and a disappointment. And milder/wilder weather is coming...

    A very unfair comment.

MT has legendary status on these weather boards and deservedly so.

You should read his 2010 forecast if you're in any doubt.

He also spends a lot of time researching and imparting his knowledge here.

This winter has been notoriously difficult for all the good forecasters to call.

I think an apology is in order.......

That 2010 forecast was almost a decade ago :pac:

I don't think giveitholly was being mean or attacking MT - just highlighting that long-range forecasts are unpredictable. Everyone IMO opinion - including the mighty MT - gets them wrong as often as they get them right.

Also it is important to remember this whole winter has been a tease and not the forecasters.

And that this is just one of those occasions where if it can go wrong for Ireland, it most certainly will. Both Europe and North America have seen some amazing snowfalls and cold weather (Dalton minimum type severity).

Apologise for what,Am I not allowed have an opinion? I think Mt is great and read his forecast every day but that doesn't say he is always right, all this winter we are hearing of this deep cold coming but its always being pushed back,I understand how hard difficult it is to give long term forecasts but derekon I won't be apologising because I have nothing to apologise for
