    Hi

I can't seem to find them. They were on the old app.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

As far as I can see (I downloaded the app just to check for you here - I never go near any sort of weather app, that includes Met Éireann), they aren't on the app and you need to go to the site to check the satellites out which are under the latest reports tab.

Short range graph with slider seems to be gone ... found it to be very handy and pretty accurate too

    Anything else missing ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,268 ✭✭✭Macy0161

Is that covered in the rainfall forecast map/ slider? It's hourly for the short term and then the steps extend near the end?

Im reopening this now , apologies for the delay I was in recovery from Surgery and didn't have a chance to go through a lot of the posts that were getting reported .

Met E were decent enough to ask for the opinions of others , and Im sure all constructive criticism will be taken on board , ranting and raving will be glanced over , as alluded too by some posters with a background in IT , things don't happen quickly for bug fixes , as someone working nearly 8 months on my own website with over 2500 products the smallest of errors can cause the biggest problem ( and cost the most money )

Put forward your criticism but be mindful this is a work in progress and even when complete to a point where some are happy it will still be a work in process as in IT things don't stand still , upgrades are constant and unfortunately so are bugs / fixes

Whatever about the mobile site the desktop site has come on dramatically on the positive side since I last looked last week.

Im able to find everything easily again. Hurray!

Mobile app seems to load when it feels like. I'm on a constant 4g connection with speeds rarely lower than 50mbps download, it's not my connection. Sometimes it'll load, sometimes it won't.

The maps are also extremely sluggish at loading.

New feature on the Atlantic charts on the old site.

This is the first of my series of posts comparing the new site versus the old site. First the rainfall radar, I like that lightening is included on the new website but it only goes back 90 minutes as opposed to 6 hours on the old site. I will miss the old site whenever Met Eireann takes it down permanently.

I might have missed this information in previous posts but I'll ask anyway.

What are the reasons for changing the website?
    Are there any new features?
Are any of the existing features being dropped?

    Hope you are getting well.

You are too kind to Met Eireann, the new site should still be there in as beta not the production site.

Sick and tired of being given the forecast for Dublin and Leinster! It's about as relevant to me as the forecast for Johannesburg! When's this going to be fixed!

I get the forecast for Munster mostly. Occasionally I'm given the Dublin forecast, which is what I want.

    Wanna swap? :)

On chrome on a PC its remembering my location each time and going back to the same location.

If I type in a location it remembers it and it even remembers the last location if I click on part of the map to set the location.

Has the Rainfall Radar died again?

It comes up with no data (outline square with slider in it) then vanishes on me this morning.

Edit> None of the satellite images or loading either.

Yeah, it seems to be inop. right enough.

I'm using this one now and I prefer it to the ME one.

Could be due to all the press coverage of the good weather expected for the weekend and quoting met.ie, the maps and radar are loading but very slowly.

This would lead me to think that the hosting possibly isn't up to the demand the site can and is seeing, just as well the new site didn't come live before recent snow events!

Looks like they are trying to use CDN via Amazon Cloudfront.

Also FYI if Met Eireann are still reading this for feedback, the site is throwing a warning for mixed content as not all images etc are using https e.g. <img src="http://www.met.ie/cms/assets/uploads/2018/04/Wind_lecture_photo1-264x264.jpg

Yes, but this is the new 'modern'.

I usually get the Munster forecast, with the added bonus of the hourly reports from Dublin on the current/yesterday's weather pages.

I'm not defending this one. It's seems like a mix of a technical bug and a usability issue.

Many are experiencing the same problem, so I think they should address it.
Could involve a big rethink of their entire homepage approach though, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

I find that most of these problems didn't arise until the site launched and replaced the old site. It worked fairly well while in beta!

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,105 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Also, I note that the 5 day outlook in no way resembles the national forecast.

Was there a way to show rainfall radar projections ? I seem to recall seeing a radar that projected a couple of hours ahead but I can't find it now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,764 ✭✭✭my3cents

You don't mean the Rainfall Forecast (7 Day) link on the home page?

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,944 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Lot of old links not working e.g. https://www.met.ie/forecasts/uvindex.asp

Someone needs to look at old sitemap and setup 301 redirects.

If you have a mobile, try the 'RainToday' app from MeteoGroup. Gives forecast for next hour based on radar projections:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mg.raintoday&hl=en_US

Sends you a notification telling you roughly what time rain will arrive at your location, and how long it may last.

I use the Meteoradar app which works well.

I thought the radar, on the new site, is high res. Heavy drizzle in Galway isn't showing up.
