lightweight robotic hydraulics

I need a hydraulic piston and actuator for an automation application. Its approx 0.5kg weights being moved 5cm, but very precisely and smoothly. Previously we used a a stepper motor, but think we can get the tool head lighter using some hydraulics.

Are there suppliers. A lot of the lightweight applications like mine, use electric stepper. Hydraulics is normally for heavyweight machinery.. Perhaps I am looking for wrong thing.

What I was thinking something like fluid brakes from a mountain bike.

Specialised in hydraulics but not worked in that sector for over ten years. For applications and strokes that small I have never seen or heard of hydraulics being used be cause of the cost of power packs proportional valves and then the control set up. It can probably done hydraulic set ups are very rare for such light weight low force jobs

http://boruengineering.ie/ try these guys. Just keep in mind it's hard to get anyone in hydraulics now to do one off low cost jobs unless you already know what you want but the could point you in the right direction

Got help with this based around motorcycle brake lever and pipes . Also I see some specialist companies in this area, but none for robotics. This is useful for a trial..

To be honest when I add on the necessary distance sensing, calibration, force release, we might stick with steppers anyway, but we will do a trial..
