The course could be interesting. Glad to see its finishing city centre.

Interesting, presumably Northside for Leo wonder what roads will be like.

With the recent challenge Galway hype could this be a clash again between brands?
Defo sure ireland doesnt have demand for both as prob similar dates.

Maybe Ironman have got ahead of the curve.

My bad, south of the city allegedly and challenge and TI bids rejected by DCC over ironman (allegedly).
I think that's politically correct anyway...

    Bit more reported here

This is unacceptable. Everyone on the Tri circuit in Ireland knows that weekend is reserved for CK Tri!

Let's hope they have better luck dealing with the utter bullsh1t regarding roads and closures that we have seen in the fingal area the last two years...

Bringing in IM and then having a 'neutralised' bike leg would be damn hilarious.

One way to stop drafting being an issue

With the prospect of money to be made, i doubt closed roads will be an issue!

Looking forward to seeing the route all the same

My guess is it will be tough. Every IM seems to have an "angle". I reckon they'll market this as a tough IM, up and down Sally Gap.

If Barcelona is anythin to go by then yeah, itll be a tough one

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,436 ✭✭✭Izoard

If you include the Sally Gap, you would need 3-4 councils involved overall, to get the race off the ground.
If only DCC were involved, it will be concentrated in and around the city centre.

That was inherited from Challenge wasn't it? I didn't think they changed the bike route this year when it became IM branded. The route changed last year when it was the European Champs IIRC

talks about the dublin mountains in this one. would think the swim will be Seapoint/Dun Laoghaire with the cycle heading for the dublin hills thereafter

Wicklow would be ideal. Huge county plenty of quietish roads that could be shut down.

That or laps and laps and laps of the Phoenix Park after a Liffey swim :)

An IM in Dublin seems a bit...dull...
August in Ireland. Weather. Roads. Irish people who don't have patience to wait for a 5k to pass allowing the roads to be taken over for a whole weekend.

Yeah but the option was there to revert back to the old course which was turned down

Well they do say there is more risk of infection swimming too close to the reeds - best to avoid swallowing :)

Def wont be north City if on this date as it will be an All Ireland Semi Final of some description in Croker.

An Ironman event in Dublin is an organizational nightmare!!!. However DCC normally rows in with these events. However DLCC will be more involved with DCC and possibly one or even two more councils. Lots of closed roads or lots of laps - that's the choice!

Sounds like it'll be a trek back from the City Centre to Dun Laoghaire to get your bike Though - Either that or 2 transitions.

What does the entry fee for these usually come to?
And more importantlyI still get an Ironman tatoo even though its only a 70.3?

You can get the dot. You have to wait until you do the full before getting the m.
