Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Shipping from Ukraine to Ireland

    I am aware it is outside the EU, but is there a freetrade agreement with Ukraine and the EU in place?
    I vaguely remember reading something about it and searching online hasn't helped - which may very well be down to the terms I have used. I keep finding one between Iceland and Ukraine and separately, the DFCTA but not sure whether or not that applies. The EU-Ukraine association agreement I think is the same thing, but that is a big read..



    I am looking to buy something from Ukraine, which isn't much cheaper than it would be here, if I could find it here anywhere.

    If there is a freetrade agreement I could buy it plus shipping, if not I guess my better option would be to wait and see if they appear available within EU.

    It's an electronic item, but comes with a separate attachment, fragile to a degree as there is glass. So the shipping with it brings it up.
    Total for the two parts and shipping is €211.
    If VAT is added (and handling) that would bring it up to roughly €260 + handling €10 - €15.
    To buy from EU when available (less and less available) is roughly €200 delivered.

    I think the answer is obvious, buy from within the EU.. It's cheaper, and you also get the benefit of being protected by EU consumer law..

    A free trade deal wouldn't remove VAT from the equation, they normally only involve preferential(reduced) rates of customs duty,,

    Thanks, I'm not even sure if they will become available again in the EU, just hoping that they will. Consumer law, I am not so worried about, it is not new anyway and I would be able to repair it.
    I was under the misunderstanding that a free trade agreement meant that no vat was added.
    I thought (although now I am less convinced) that I read an article a while back about some agreement with Ukraine where EU Vat wasn't added or something. Scratching my head the last few days trying to remember.

    Thanks for your replies, I will probably cross my fingers now and wait. Hopefully another will appear online somewhere.
