Eir website doesn’t work when on virgin media WiFi at home

Does anyone notice the Eir website does not load if on virgin media broadband/WiFi at home. As soon as I switch to data the Eir website loads straight away.

Every other website works fine with no issue.
I think we know who virgin media’s biggest competitor is.

Weird, I’ve tried it again just now and still no joy. It’s definitely being blocked. I wonder is it legal.

Works for me on VM too.

Have you tried another device or browser.

What DNS servers are you using?

Have you tried pinging or traceroute to it?

Weird it seems to be my partners phone as well. In the process of switching to Eir so I need to use the site quite a bit, it just means toggling my WiFi on and off and using data on my phone. Odd.

Just used a tool for pinging from the iPhone and no response from Eir.ie. Google and everything else responds fine.

    Tried laptop out of curiosity.
    Same issue
    See results

Nothing weird there, they're just dropping ICMP, a common practice.

Used to happen for me. I could turn off WiFi and get onto it on my 4g. Happened on multiple devices too

    try in CMD

    ipconfig /flushdns

    Not DNS.
This didn’t work. Simply blocked by ISP. I’m sure a vpn would let me around it. Anyway it’s not a big deal but it is interesting imo.
Didn’t know competitors blocked each other. Seems like a pretty ****ty move by VM imo.

I'm on VM - no problem accessing eir.ie

    Try in Command

    tracert eir.ie

My vm contract had expired, I had left it rolling and was checking eir to see their prices. Not a chance I was able to get on 😂

Mine is also expired maybe that’s why I can’t access it.

    Surely that's not allowed?

"Allowed" is debatable, but it's almost certainly not what is happening. The only tracert posted so far suggests that the issue is on Eir's side, not VM's.

Incidentally, I'm on VM, out of contract, and I can access Eir fine

It looks like MyEir is only available on data for some reason. The site was updated today however, but it’s only working for bill pay at the mo. Check their replies to tons of enquires on Twitter.
